Adaptation pt 2

. Last week we started talking about adaptation, how adaptation of scripture into our lives effects us.
. We spoke about the reality that adaptation of scripture does not lead to a life that glorify’ s or honors God.
.To adapt something means to take it and make it fit within what you already know and what you already believe, we cannot make scripture and the truth of God fit within the confines of the life that we were living before we knew God.
. we shared that the early church in the new testament saw this in basically all of the churches, false teacher taught people that it was ok to adapt parts of the Word and God and still live their lives the same as before.
2 Peter 2:1–2 NKJV
But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed.
. The life of a believer needs to be drastically different to the life of a non believer.
. When we come to God we are adopted into his family, we are not adapted in, which means God is not trying to make us fit within his family, he is making us 100% a part of his family.
which is why we cannot adapt scripture to our lives we must adopt it and let it become fully who we are.
. AW TOZER once said “ one compromise here, another there and soon enough the so called Christian and the man in the world LOOK THE SAME
.four things adaptation of scripture in our lives does
1) Adaptation causes you to miss out on genuine relationship with God, because you only allow him to fit in where you want him to be in ways that are comfortable for you.
2) Adaptation causes you to miss out on the full blessings that God has for you, because by still holding onto and living in ways that are sinful in his eyes he cannot bless that!
3) Adaptation will cause you to have insecurity's and be fearful, because deep down you know that you are not doing things the way God wants.
4) Adaptation cause’s you to doubt God when something doesn't work out the way you want it to, or things don't go your way, or troubles come against you.
.adaptation leads to a life of mediocrity and un fulfillment!
. Now i want to talk about adaption of the calling of God on our lives!
. As believer we all know that God has great purpose for our lives, we are not born again to just live a life that doesn't effect the world around us in some way,
. some calling’s effect thousands, others effect those who are in our immediate family, some are called to run business that glorify God, there are many different callings, in fact you will not find two that are identical.
. in the same way that adaption of scripture in our lives cause us to miss out on what God really wants to do, any adaptation that we try to make to the calling of God will actually remove us form the grace that has been given to us by God for the given task.
. The calling will bring you discomfort, Gods calling for your life will often remove you from the place that you feel most comfortable.
. Because the calling of God is not to benefit you and make your life easier, Its for the glory of the Kingdom of God, its to be a part of the divine plan and purpose God has for the human race.
. Living out the calling of God will bring blessing to your life as you serve him, but there will be many moments of discomfort for you.
. And so what happens when we reach a point of discomfort in the calling of God?
. we have two choices,
We follow it wholeheartedly, trust God completely, or
We try to adapt the plan and calling of God to fit within the comfort of our life as we like it
. and as we have been learning we know that to adapt means to take it and make it fit within what we are already doing.
.just as we cannot adapt scripture to make it work for the life that we want to live, we cannot adapt the purpose and calling of God to fit our lives
1 Peter 2:21 NKJV
For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps:
. The truth is to many people are ok with adapting the call of God, so that they can continue to live the way they want, in the place that they feel most comfortable.
. Think about the disciples when they were called, they all left behind everything they did not stay in one place very long they traveled and went wherever Jesus did.
.They were not concerned about the comfort of their lives, they were concerned about the calling they had been given
. what might adaptation of calling look like?
Jonah is a great example, he was called to go to Nineveh, but told God he would not go to that place he would go anywhere else but not there.
. He was willing to do the thing that he was called to, but not in the place that he was called to do it, he tried to adapt the calling to fit what was comfortable to him.
. We cannot allow the comfort of our lives to hinder the calling,
i want to leave you with a few ways we choose to adapt the calling of God,
as Jonah did we are willing to do live out the calling but not in the place God wants, maybe God is calling you to move and to another place, maybe he simply wants you do do what your called to do in a different area of ministry, but we get to comfortable with the people we are with.
2) When God calls us to mentor and lead others,he often wants us to lead and mentor people we may not necessarily want to, so we adapt but choosing other people who we like more or want to spend more time with.
3) There will most likely come a time when the calling of God, will lead us out of something that we like to do and enjoy ( and its not that God doesn't want us to enjoy life, but often its a check of our priorities )
. Where , When and who are the 3 main areas i believe God showed me that we try to adapt our calling.
. just as you cannot adapt scripture to fit the comfort of the life you want to live, neither can you adapt the calling of God to try and do the very same thing.
encourage then pray!
