God Works In Us

Philippians 2:12-13,12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. 13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

I.       In verse 12 God is telling us to be a Christian at all times

A.    We see here in the first sentence “as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence”

B.    Paul is telling the Philippian church that he may not be back to help them work out some of their problems

C.    They need to look to Christ for help and not Paul

II.     Than in verse 13 We see that it is God who workth in us

A.    Work out what God has worked in

1.     We are to do this in our daily living

B.    God is not telling anyone to work for their salvation

1.     God had saved them already

2.     It was time for them to work out what God had given them

a)     Hebrews 13:21, Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen

3.     Put into practice what God had taught them to do after being saved

a)     2 Corinthians 6:1, We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain

(1)   Every time we don’t do what God has worked in our life’s, we do it in vain

b)     Philippians 1:6, Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ

4.     We are to be Christ like

C.    God wants us to be there for others

1.     I have shared with you for a long time that it is always about the other person

2.     Let me tell you a story about heaven and hell

3.     We are to be Christ like and Christ always help the other person never Himself

D.    Back in verse 12 God tells us to work it out with fear and trembling

1.     This means to have complete trust in God that He will do what He promises

III.    Finally, this is all done, so that God's will and good pleasure is done

A.    As we feed ourselves and grow

1.     We start to do God's will and His good pleasure

2.     We get closer and closer to God

a)     We start having that relationship with Christ we so desperately need

B.    Something happens when we do this

1.     We start doing Godly things

a)     We help others

(1)   Our families
(2)   Our friends
(3)   The people at work
(4)   Everyone around us

C.    God is working in us

1.     There is a differences between God doing the work and we our selves doing the work

2.     John 6:45, It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me

3.     Isaiah 26:12, LORD, thou wilt ordain peace for us: for thou also hast wrought all our works in us

a)     You have a problem you need changing in your life, you take it to God in prayer and ask Him to change you

4.     Remember this, sometimes we have the will and not the strength

a)     God is our strength

b)     As we learn of God, we grow and God works throught us to change us.

Conclusion:

God through Paul gave us some good instruction here in Philippians. Do we live Christ like without the preacher around?

Hebrews 12:2, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
