He said:
“The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;
my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield and the horn of my salvation.
He is my stronghold, my refuge and my savior—
from violent men you save me.
I call to the Lord, who is worthy of praise,
and I am saved from my enemies.
“The waves of death swirled about me;
the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me.
The cords of the grave coiled around me;
the snares of death confronted me.
In my distress I called to the Lord;
I called out to my God.
From his temple he heard my voice;
my cry came to his ears.

This is also recorded in Psalm 18:1-6. David is praising God for the helping him in a time of adversity. Vs. 1 tells us the verses following are David’s reaction when the Lord delivered him from the hand of enemies and from the hand of Saul. It expresses David’s gratitude to the Lord for His salvation, deliverance and covenant faithfulness.

“All God’s exploits in the past and promises for the future are predicated on who He is!” (Roy Zuck; John Walvoord)
What does it mean that God is all these things?
If God is mine, then I will follow Him. I will depend on His power, wisdom, and goodness. I can DEPEND ON HIM. I can CALL ON HIM.
God is Protector
God is Protector
How is God our protector? Based on these verses, God is:
unchangeable
faithful
permanent
a safe have that cannot be penetrated
unmoveable
Verses 5-6 describe times when there did not appear to be hope.
KAYAK Story.
When it seems like there is no hope, God saves us!
Vs. 4 says all we have to do is CALL on Him.
What can we do in times of distress?
God is Provider
God is Provider
When we call out to God, what happens?
In this passage, we see that God hears us from His temple. There is an added thought: not only does He hear from His dwelling place, the Bible says, “my cry came to His ears.”
What is the implication? The implication is that if the cry comes to His ears, He is aware, He is understanding, He is responding, He is going into action on our behalf, He is our PROVIDER.
Want to take this to another level? For the Christian, where is the temple of God?
Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;
From HIS temple, He is able to show us that:
God is personal.
God is our protector.
God is our provider.
God is WITH YOU.
For who is God besides the Lord?
And who is the Rock except our God?
