The Power of Light

A modern scientific discovery is of thrilling interest. The so-called death ray with which the French army experimented consists of a light of tremendous candle-power, a beam of which striking the eye causes a temporary paralysis. Troops advancing would be mowed into unconsciousness, later to recover in captivity. What an illustration of the power of light! "Let there be light: and there was light." M. de Christmas, inventor of this ray, believes that cities can be protected by a curtain of light which airmen could not face. "God is light, and in him is no darkness at all." What a symbol, this curtain of light, of the protecting care of God!

The Different Kinds of Light

vs. 14 “you are the light of the world”

light (source of) n. — any object that serves as a source of illumination.

app: what’s in you is going to come out of you.

vs. 15 “nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket”

to light (a fire) v. — to cause to start burning (by subjecting to fire or great heat).

app: your light so beam, emit so far until somebody else in your house should be affected

to shine (beam) v. — to emit light; be bright, as of the sun or a light.

vs. 16 “Let your light so shine before men”

taking the bowl off doesn’t change the level of the shine.

you can’t put a weak flame in a windy place or else it’ll go out.

the way you grow a fire is by adding trash to it. from the one light you’d get a larger fire.

Question: what needs to be set on fire in your life for your light to burn more brightly?it ended up being contained to being artificial vs.

when you’re strong enough

ill: rock climbing. if you can’t make it up the kiddie wall you need to go sit down.

BUT just because you can’t climb it now, doesn’t mean that you can’t get stronger to be able.

The Purpose of Light

Theory and Reality are 2 different things

In theory is that there are a lot of Christians

REality: they don’t act like it

The WS means at the root “moral or ethcical code”

vs. 16 “Let your light so shine before men”

Pt: If how you act people can’t see God you don’t deserve to sit high.

Galatians 5:20–21 NKJV

20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

The purpose of being lit is

Matthew 5:16 NKJV

16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

It’s your’s “let your light shine”

It can be seen “shine before men”

the amount of glory is determined by how well you steward what’s already burning from where you’ve already put yourself

If you are shining enough He’ll get the credit.
