Introduction
How many of you like feet? They look wired and are smelly and grouse. We will look at a sinner and we will look at a Pharisee and we gain an example from them on how to serve others in situations that we might face today. I want us to see what an example of a true servant is and how we can apply that to our lives.
The sinner
She sought (36-37a)
She went when she knew where Jesus was
She was not asked to serve
She was a sinner
She knew she was not perfect or a professional
The pharisee would have never done that
She sacrificed (37b)
She used her own tears and hair
She used her ointment
Possibly expensive
This can be used with the parable of the talents
Application
Seek a way to serve
Never be to good to serve in a position
Jesus washed people feet like this woman did
Main application-
look for any opportunity to serve
services is sacrifice
The saint
He criticized
He made Jesus lower than himself
He criticized the woman for being a servant
He compared
He compared Jesus to Himself
He was to good to have a sinner touch him (39)
He was to good to wash Jesus feet (44)
Application
Do not waist serving time to criticize others
Do not make yourself more than what you are but rather make yourself low
Conclusion
we have looked at a sinner and a saint and how they both served very differently because of how they viewed themselves. You should view yourself as the sinner and that you are here to serve and give your all for others; not the saint who thought he was too good to serve and to be brought low. Look for any opportunity to serve instead of thinking you are too good to serve. Jesus did the same thing and we should too.
