Jesus Heals in Response to Faith
Jesus Heals in Response to Faith
18 As Jesus was saying this, the leader of a synagogue came and knelt before him. “My daughter has just died,” he said, “but you can bring her back to life again if you just come and lay your hand on her.”
19 So Jesus and his disciples got up and went with him. 20 Just then a woman who had suffered for twelve years with hemorrhages came up behind him. She touched the fringe of his robe, 21 for she thought, “If I can just touch his robe, I will be healed.”
22 Jesus turned around, and when he saw her he said, “Daughter, be encouraged! Your faith has made you well.” And the woman was healed at that moment.
23 When Jesus arrived at the official’s home, he saw the noisy crowd and heard the funeral music. 24 “Get out!” he told them. “The girl isn’t dead; she’s only asleep.” But the crowd laughed at him. 25 After the crowd was put outside, however, Jesus went in and took the girl by the hand, and she stood up! 26 The report of this miracle swept through the entire countryside.
Introduction
Introduction
Today I want to preach on the topic A Different World. Maybe some of your remember the spin off from the Crosby Show with the same title. The words went something like this I will just change a couple of the words.
I know my parents love me,
Stand behind me come what may.
I know now that I'm ready,
Because I finally heard them say
It's a different world
form where you come from.
Here's a chance to make it,
If we focus on our goals.
If you dish it we can take it,
Just remember you've been told
It's a different world
form where you come from.
It's a different world
form where you come from.
How relevant is that today if we look over the last 4 months. The world has certain change sense the last time we gather in this building.
Convid-19 has change our lives, how we gather, the prices of meat seems to go up every week, toilet paper has taken on a new meaning of its own. As we meet here today we have to give vitural handshake, hugs, and kisses.
The world has change sense the start of Covid-19 with the killing of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Rayshard Brooks. Have cause protest and riot in most every state and city in the U.S.
We just celebrate Juneteenth and #45 has claim that he made it famous. As thought black people have never heard about it or celebrate it.
Its a Different World Than Where We Come From.
We have the young people protesting in the street and not just black people we see brown, whites, Asians, people for different denominations and religions come together to end social injustice and systemic racism.
Its A Different World than Where We Can From.
To have a different world usually means that something in or around us has change. Which also might mean how we live and do life is could or should be different.
So Let get into today’s text.
Situation
Situation
This chapter starts with Jesus forgiving the sin a paralyzed man and the people who heard Jesus tell the man that his sin was forgiving start asking themselves who do he think he is God. Jesus hearing the people thoughts says to them which do you think is easier to say your sins are forgiving or Stand up and walk? So Jesus order the man to stand up and walk and of course the people the religous leader did not like this.
Then Jesus continuing on his journey and comes across Matthew the tax collector and Jesus tell him to follow me and Matthew does.
Matthew ask Jesus to come to his house for dinner with other tax collectors and sinners. The Pharisees saw this and ask his other disciples why does your teacher eat with such scums?
As always Jesus has a response for them and say remember this healthy people don’t need a doctor sick people do.
How many people who are listening and show up today need a doctor?
And after preforming some miracles and teaching John the Baptist disciple about fasting we come today text.
Complication
Complication
While Jesus was discussing these with John the Baptist disciples a leader for the synagogue approach him kneeling my daughter is dying but if you come and lay your hand on her she will live.
Jesus gets up and follow the man with his disciple behind him.
As he walking a lady who been suffering from hemorrhages for twelve years came up from behind him and touch the fringe of his cloak.
1. So here we have a lady who been suffering for twelve years from hemorrhages
a. to hemorrhage is to have a constant flow of blood from a cut or nosebleed bleed. However in scripture it usually refer to a woman genital.
b. to lose contain lose blood is to be in danger of losing one life but also for a woman
2. Now for her to come up behind Jesus would probably suggest that Jesus had pass her by.
That Jesus was on his way to help someone else and Jesus did not pay her any attention.
The question is did Jesus delay his trip to the leader home to reveal something else to the people?
How you ever felt like Jesus have just pass you by and helping everyone but you.
3. Then she tell herself as Jesus pass if only I can touch his garment.
the Greek word for garment translate to fringe or tassel of a prayer shawl.
4. and she will be heal.
the Greek word for heal translate to be saved.
Good News.
Good News.
That Jesus does not want us to let him pass us by.
He needs to to want him so much that you coming chasing behind him
Even if you can’t psychically catch him do you have enough faith to touch a single string of his tassel.
because with the faith of a mustard seed you can be healed/saved
