Intro

Well this is the second time I am writing the Fathers Day Sermon

I get so nervous because I think this is a Sunday people talk about

See fathers will tell you that the pastors beat them on fathers day and on mothers day they don’t

Rather than beat up lets use challenge

I think pastors stress fathers day because they see how important it is

Fathers serve such a huge role

our world is suffering the consequences of what happens when fathers drop the ball

Dads you have a responsibility to lead your family

Deuteronomy 6:1–9 NASB95

1 “Now this is the commandment, the statutes and the judgments which the Lord your God has commanded me to teach you, that you might do them in the land where you are going over to possess it, 2 so that you and your son and your grandson might fear the Lord your God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments which I command you, all the days of your life, and that your days may be prolonged. 3 “O Israel, you should listen and be careful to do it, that it may be well with you and that you may multiply greatly, just as the Lord, the God of your fathers, has promised you, in a land flowing with milk and honey. 4 “Hear, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord is one! 5 “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6 “These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. 7 “You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up. 8 “You shall bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontals on your forehead. 9 “You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

This command was given to Moses to give to the nation

The nations fathers were charged with leading their families to run after Jesus

And guess what church

for them to lead their wives to run after Jesus

For them to lead their kids to run after Jesus

They themselves had to run after Jesus

They had to first Love Jesus with their entire being

They themselves had to read and memorize the scripture

They themselves had to walk with Jesus

Men of the church

wether you father biological children or have adopted children or have no children of your own

because I believe you can spiritually father kids

You are to be leading your wives to run after Jesus

you are to be leading your kids to be running after Jesus

But first

You need to love Jesus with your entire being

every once of who you are is to be loving Jesus

And rather than asking yourself how you are doing on that

ask your kids

I have 2 daughters

Emma is an encourager

Lilyann is more of a prophet she tells it like it is

Both of my girls will tell me when I have messed up and tell me what I need to fix it

That is a good measuring stick of where I am at as a dad

You also have to be running after Jesus yourself

men we offer Bible studies and I believe there are some new ones starting up

I cant tell you how important Bible Study is

We offer Sunday School

But as mean if we expect to lead our families to run after Jesus to love Jesus and to walk with Jesus

Then we need to be doing it first

We need to be out front doing it

You have heard the statistic

if a child comes to Christ there is a 7% chance the rest of the family will

if a wife/mother comes to Christ there is a 23% chance the rest of the family will

if a husband/father comes to Christ there is a 93% chance the rest of the family will

men do you see how important your role of leading your family is

now some of you will say you have heard this before and it is the same old fathers day sermon

and you may even ask why do we have to hear this over and over every fathers day

because we are not doing it

right now in our world we are seeing the consequence of what happens when fathers drop the ball

So I want to encourage you to step up

lead your family

to start with

Deuteronomy 6:5 NASB95

5 “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.

Mark 12:30 NASB95

30 and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’

We are to love Jesus with our entire being

you should love Jesus with your time, your money, your words, how you act, your work, the TV you watch, what you do on the internet, what you say on social media

That sets the example for your wife to follow and for your kids to follow when you lead them in loving Jesus with your entire being

6 “These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart.

Psalm 119:11 NASB95

11 Your word I have treasured in my heart, That I may not sin against You.

We are to be leading our family to study and read and memorize Gods word

And wouldn't you know before you can lead that you must be doing it yourself

dads for us to be good dads we must be reading our manuals

We need to be spending time with God if we every expect to father well

That means saying no to things, saying no to tv, saying no to social media, saying no to whatever gets in the way of you spending time in Gods word

They asked Ravi Zacharias how it seemed he love God more now then when he first fell in love with Jesus

He said its because of the things I said no to

He said no to the things that just fill time and do nothing to further his relationship with Jesus

so men we need to be saying no to things

This morning we want to encourage you men you husbands, and you dads

It is not easy but the good things never are

begin to do the things we shared this morning

some of you already are, continue, and look to encourage the younger men

As we have seen when the men are actively leading their families to run after Christ it changes everything

We can see that right here in our own church

Now is our time to do just that

Now is our time men to lead our families

to discipline our families

men now is our time to sharpen each other

Now more than ever we need men to lead their families to run after Christ

Now more than ever we need men to disciple other men to run after Jesus

and let me clear about this

men that will only happen when we decide to run after Jesus ourselves

as the band comes up

and as we move into the time of invitation

maybe you are here this morning and you do not have a personal relationship

we want to invite you to the front and someone will open up the Bible and show you that God loves you so much that He sent His son Jesus to die on the cross to pay for your sin

And to begin your relationship with Jesus is to repent of your sin and to believe in Jesus

or maybe you are here this morning and you already have a personal relationship with Jesus and you simply need to spend some time in prayer
