1 Peter 1:10-12 Of which salvation the prophets have inquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you: 11 Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow. 12 Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.
Introduction
Introduction
We are blessed to be living this time, in this era, in this age.
When we watch the news, we get the impression that we are living in the worst time known to man, but that is why it is important to know the Bible, and History. The Bible and History tells us what thing were like before, and the Bible can also tell us what things will be like in the future.
We live in a time called the age of Grace.
Ephesians 3:1-6 Talks about this age of Grace and the mysteries, but we are going to look into these mysteries more in another message, but tonight our focus will be on the messengers:
I. The Messengers
I. The Messengers
There are three different messengers mentioned in this passage: Prophets, Preachers, and Angels
1.Prophets
1.Prophets
1 Peter 1:10-11 Of which salvation the prophets have inquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you: 11 Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.
Prophets were god’s messengers, who had the ability to speak the very words of God.
They were also given messages that were about future events, that even the prophets did not fully understand.
Sometimes we think we have to understand it perfectly before we act…THAT IS NOT FAITH!
Noah did not fully understand all that was going to happen, but he did what God told him to do!
Hebrews 11:7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.
One of the problems we have today, is that people still believe the prophetic office is still in use and active.
This leads to many false doctrines, and scamming God’s people
2 Peter 2:3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.
IF YOU HAVE A WORD FROM THE LORD - YOU BETTER BE READING THE KING JAMES BIBLE!
The Prophetic Office closed when God completed the cannon of Scripture that we have in the Bible.
Genesis-Revelation
I believe the prophetic office is no longer necessary because we have the completed Word of God.
You have more Scripture in your lap, then anyone in the Bible ever had?
Why don’t we live like it? ....etc
1 Corinthians 13:1-10 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. 2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. 3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. 4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, 5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; 6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; 7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. 8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. 9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
God has completed his Word! We are not to add or take away from it!
Revelation 22:18-19 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: 19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
The next REAL Prophets that will come will come during the Tribulation
Revelation 11:3 And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.
Review: Three Messengers, number 1 - Prophets.
2. Preachers
2. Preachers
1 Peter 1:12 Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you...
Preachers are special men! - They are NOT prophets, but the are special, they are God’s men.
The Bible tells us to “Remember them”
Hebrews 13:7 Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.
1 Timothy 5:17-18 Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine. 18 For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward.
They are men with a message from God, who live by faith.
We should follow them.
Get behind your preacher!
I am going with God, who’s coming with me?
Review: Prophets, Preachers....
3. Angels
3. Angels
1 Peter 1:12 Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.
Angles are also God’s messengers, in fact, angel means messenger.
Hebrews 13:2 Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.
Do you know the story of How Mormonism started?
Do you know the story of How Mormonism started?
Joseph Smith saw an angel of light called Moroni
Moroni lead Smith to golden plates that were written in a strange language.
"reformed Egyptian", a language unknown to linguists or Egyptologists.
After the translation was complete, Smith returned the plates to Moroni and no one has seen the plates since.
2 Corinthians 11:13-15 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. 14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.
Answering Mormons’ Questions: Ready Responses for Inquiring Latter-Day Saints Appendix 1: Ten Questions for Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints
Changing doctrines: The doctrine of polygamy was abolished in 1890 with the Manifesto; the curse on those with African heritage was lifted in 1978. Why did the LDS Church change its position on these issues when Alma 41:8 says, “The decrees of God are unalterable”?
When you have “prophets” you can “cover up” any false teaching by saying God gave me a NEW VISION...
