The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree:
He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
INTRODUCTION:
The Lord likens the Christian unto a palm tree. So let us learn some of the characteristics of the palm tree.
THE PALM TREE IS KNOWN FOR ITS UPRIGHTNESS
The psalmist asked the question, "Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? Who shall dwell in thy Holy Hill?" Then He answers by saying, "He that walketh uprightly." Christian people should walk uprightly before this wicked generation.
THE PALM TREE IS KNOWN FOR ITS FRUITFULNESS
John 15
Jesus says, "If we abide in the vine the same shall bring forth fruit." John the Baptist cried, "Bring forth fruit meet for the repentance."
THE PALM TREE IS KNOWN FOR ITS DURABILITY
Jesus said, "My sheep shall never perish." Paul cried, "Nothing could separate one of God's children from the love of God."
THE PALM TREE IS KNOWN FOR ITS CHANGELESS LIFE
The palm tree is an ever-green tree. Paul preached to young Timothy by saying, "Be instant in season and out of season."
THE PALM TREE IS KNOWN FOR ITS SMOOTHNESS
The palm tree is not a rough knotty tree. Some of us preachers must spend valuable time knocking off dead limbs and knots off some rough shod church members.
THE PALM TREE IS KNOWN FOR ITS MANY USES
The palm tree can be used for many different things. Paul said, "I became all things to all people that I might win some."
THE PALM TREE IS A SYMBOL OF VICTORY
When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the people spread palm branches before the Saviour. John on the Isle of Patmos saw a great company of people on Mt. Zion with palm branches in their hands. These have overcome sin, hell, Satan, death and the grave.
