Holy Spirit

This morning I want to talk to you about the some of the workings of the Holy Spirit.

This is a big subject and we will not cover everything.

This will be more like an introduction to some of the things the Holy Spirit does

I.       What is a Spirit or the Holy Spirit?

A.    In the Hebrew and Greek it comes out as Air in motion

B.    The Holy Spirit is the working force of God.

1.     We never see the Holy Spirit for He is like the wind

a)     The wind comes and goes, we can feel it, but we cannot see.

b)     We can see what it does

(1)   We can look at on a windy day and see the tress bending, the leafs flood of into the sky

(2)   We can feel the wind on our face

The Holy Spirit is the working force of God; Genesis 1:2,And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

II.     We are made in the image of God

A.    We are made in the image of God (Body, soul, and Spirit)

B.    In Gen. God tells us that He breath in the breath of life.

1.     Genesis 2:7, And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

a)     So we have a Spirit from God which is the breath of life

b)     Don’t confuse this with the Holy Spirit

(1)   Romans 8:16, The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God

III.    The Holy Spirit works in us.

A.    Ephesians 1:13, In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise

1.     The monment we get saved we receive the Holy Spirit

2.     The Seal here is the same seal mention in Revelation 20:3

a)     Revelation 20:3, And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.

(1)   The Seal here is the same seal mentioned in Eph.

(2)   Notice that with this seal Satan can’t deceive the people.

B.    1 Corinthians 6:19-20,19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

1.     In the Old Testament God came to the Tabranacle

a)     Into the Holy of Holies

b)     God was there and it was Holy ground

2.     In the New Testament God comes into our body

a)     We become the temple which God dwells in and we or our bodies become holy

b)     Remember we are bought with a price

(1)   Christ died for us, He separed Himself from the Father for us

3.     When we get saved the Holy Spirit is sealed in us

a)     John 14:16, And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever

b)     The Holy Spirit is with us until we die

c)     Ephesians 4:30,30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

C.    Romans 8:26-28, 26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. 28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

1.     The Holy Spirit helps us with our weakness

a)     The verse here is telling us that we are in a continual weak state and we need all the help we can get.

b)     Isaiah 64:6, But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

2.     Groaning; means like when we tried to lift something to heavy for us, we groan

a)     The Holy Spirit prays for us so hard He groans

b)     Luke 22:44, And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

(1)   Here we see Christ praying so hard that His sweat was as it were great drops of blood

3.     One thing this shows is how hard the Spirit prays for us

a)     The verse here also tells us that the Spirit prays for us in God's will

b)     God seaches the hearsts of us

c)     And knows what the Holy Spirit is praying

(1)   Just like Christ intercedes for us in heaven,(Heb 7:25) the Holy Spirit intercedes for us in our bodies

(2)   What the verse is telling us here is that the Spirit does not speak to God, put that God knows what the Spirit is thinking about us
