Christ had to Learn

Hebrews 5:8-9,8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; 9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

I.       Jesus is God in the flesh

A.    Psalm 2:7, I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

B.    John 10:38, But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.

C.    Philippians 2:6, Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

D.    John 10:30, I and my Father are one.

II.     Jesus being God had to learn what obedience was

A.    Jesus being God did not know what it was like to suffer

1.     How can a King who sits on a throne all his life know what it is like to be a servant?

2.     Christ was to become our High Priest

3.     How can Christ tell God what we are going through as a High Priest if He did not go through it Himself?

4.     Hebrews 4:15, For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

B.    Christ being God had all wisdom and was righteous and was without sin

1.     Christ needed to taste reality and in doing so He can now know exactly how we feel

2.     Philippians 2:6-8,6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

3.     Thus He become the perfect High Priest

III.    Jesus was made perfect

A.    The word here mean to be “complete”

1.     Now Christ knew what it was like to be God and human

B.    Back in the Old Testament times a man becoming a priest had to be consecrated for the office

C.    Man had to be consecrated, while Christ had to know what it was like to be man

IV.   Now that Jesus was made perfect He became the author of our salvation

A.    Christ has now become the perfect sacrifice for our salvation

B.    He has also become the perfect priest in heaven interceding for us

C.    Hebrews 7:25, Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

Conclusion:

Now that Christ has learned what it is like to be human, He has become the perfect high priest.

Hebrews 12:2, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Christ did it all and expericence it all just for us.

He expericened what it was like to be tempted

And while on the cross He new what it was like to have sin

The end resultes is:

He is our perfect High Priest
