Joshua 24 12
Joshua 24:12
Joshua 24:12,
12 I sent the hornet [that is, the terror of you] before you, which drove the two kings of the Amorites out before you; but it was not by your sword or by your bow.
God promised Israel a land of milk and honey. He could have given it to them on a platter (all the people would be gone and the land ready for them) but He did not. The Jews had to go in and war against the people of the land. But everything was done through the power of God.
I believe that God wants to work in our lives in a daily bases to show Himself, so that we can bring honor and glory to Him.
I. As we have seen in the past God promise to take care of us.
A. In Joshua 24:1-13 God uses the personal pronoun ”I“ 18 times.
1. I send the hornets, I destroyed them before you, I gave them into your hands.
2. God always taking care of us.
B. God always keeps His promise if we are doing our part with Him.
II. God works things out for us to help us.
A. Defeat today does not mean defeat tomorrow, any more than success to day means the same for tomorrow.
1. Each day is a battle
2. The war will end when we get to heaven.
B. Luke 9:23, And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
1. For God to bless us and keep blessing us, we must take up His cross and follow Him daily.
C. If you remember in the old Testiment, God promised Israel the land over the Jordon.
1. But they had to go in and fight the people of the land.
2. It was with God’s help.
III. God reminds us that it is not us, but God that does the work.
A. Today I speak of this verse to remind us, that we can do nothing that truly makes live a happy one filled with joy with out God.
B. Over the years I have met many wealthy people and one thing that stood out for the unsaved ones was all that money did not get or buy them happiness.
C. Make no bones about this, our life here on earth is a battle each and every day.
1. The battle doesn’t go away until the war is won.
2. The war will not be won till we get to heaven.
D. Just like marriage, it requires work each and every day of the rest of your life.
1. There is no magical moment where every thing is ok for the rest of your marriage.
Psalm 44:3-6,3 For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them. 4 Thou art my King, O God: command deliverances for Jacob. 5 Through thee will we push down our enemies: through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us. 6 For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me.
When, on the one hand we sit down quietly and say, “God has promised and will perform — there is nothing for me to do,” but wait on Him.
We are in big trouble. We must do our part always remembering that God is in control and will always do His part if we do ours.
Ephesians 6:11, Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
Dr Bob Jones Sr. once said “when you get to the end of your rope you tie a knot and hange on, and never ever let go.”
Ephesians 6:13-17,13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
