Marriage 4

I.       1 Peter 3:1-6 Be in subjection to your husband

A.    “You don’t know my husband. If I submit to him it’s going to be awful. He’s not a Christian, and he doesn’t obey God or His Word. How in the world am I going to submit to this man?” That verse was written to answer that kind of response. Even if the husband doesn’t obey the Word, the wife is to submit. And by her life the husband may be won. Wives, instead of writing “Repent” on the bottom of his beer cans, or pasting little notes in his lunch pail, or giving him another gospel presentation, set your life in response to God’s ordained pattern for marriage. You may, without even using the Word of God, win him by your behavior.

B.    Now lets look in verse 2. What kind of behavior will win my Husband?

1.     I am reading this from the AMP version to get a better view 1 Peter 3:2, When they observe the pure and modest way in which you conduct yourselves, together with your reverence [for your husband; you are to feel for him all that reverence includes: to respect, defer to, revere him—to honor, esteem, appreciate, prize, and, in the human sense, to adore him, that is, to admire, praise, be devoted to, deeply love, and enjoy your husband]. (Vigurus woman)

2.     This is the type of behavor that changes a husband to be a better husband and also one who could get saved

C.    Verse 3 tells us that the out ward things which are good will not be the changing factor with her husband

1.     What comes from the inwards parts of a woman is what’s going to change her husband

a)     How you act to him

b)     What you do for him

c)     How much love do you show your husband?

d)     That is what changes them

2.     God is telling us that it will not be the outward adorning but the inward adorning that a husband will notice and react to

D.    Look in verse 4 God tell a woman to work on her inward heart

1.     The words “meek and quiet” are use here

a)     Meek means – quiet and gentle

b)     Quiet means – silent and still

2.     There are women today who are boisterous and loud, demanding their rights, parading and marching, and proclaiming the injustices done to them. That isn’t God’s standard. The Bible tells women instead to cultivate a meek, quiet, gentle, still, peaceful, silent spirit. Now that doesn’t mean wives are to never offer their opinion. It means they are to understand that God expects them to be humble and still. That is the beauty and strength of a woman.[1]

a)     Let me tell you about a woman I heard on a radio station one day

3.     Most of my life I noticed that the people who had cars or bikes with massive horsepower never needed to show off. It was always the ones who did not have any thing that were showing off

a)     God is telling us that woman with meek and quit spirits are the one with great strength

E.     In verse 5 we see the outward beauty as well as the inward meek and quiet Spirit

1.     We see examples in the Old Testament of beautiful women that were Godly

a)     Ruth, Rachel, Sarah are just a few

2.     Women sometimes take so much time worrying about the outside, they don’t even think about the inward (spiritual side)

a)     If you are taking care of the inside first, you can also take care of the outside

F.     Last but not least verse 6

1.     In the AMP Bible it says - 1 Peter 3:6,6 It was thus that Sarah obeyed Abraham [following his guidance and acknowledging his headship over her by] calling him lord (master, leader, authority). And you are now her true daughters if you do right and let nothing terrify you [not giving way to hysterical fears or letting anxieties unnerve you].

2.     I hear women say, “I’m afraid to submit to my husband, because if I do, I’ll lose my rights. He’ll run me down.” But those holy women mentioned in 1 Peter 3:5 trusted God and had no fear of obeying Him. They knew that if there ever was an abuse, God would take care of the results. If you obey God and submit to your husband with a meek and quiet spirit, respond the way God wants you to respond, and don’t have any fear in doing that, you can believe that God will honor your commitment—no matter what.[2]

3.     Sarah is every women example, she called her husband master and know God would take care of the rest

a)     Abraham is the father of the faithful and Sarah is the mother of submission

b)     I have heard of women who wanted to do something that their husband did not want to and what they did was encourage them to do it in meekness and their husband could not do it fast enough. Other just come out and demand it and wonder why they have fights
