Proverbs 3
Proverbs 3:1, My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:
Law vs. Grace, most people fight it most of their lives and never truly understand it. I want to talk to you this morning about the basic concept of Grace. In a word it is love.
God loves us so much that He overlooks our sin because what Christ did on the cross for us.
In turn God want above all else is our love to Him. Lets look at what He is teaching us today in Proverbs 3:1
I. Proverbs 3:1
A. Forget not my law: That is fairly easy to understand.
B. Let thine heart keep my commandments
1. It is not our duty to keep God's law
2. The word here is “heart” which means, it is our loving devotions to do the will of God
3. Remember what the psalmist wrote in Psalm 119:11, Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
4. Than we have Ezra in Ezra 7:10, For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the LORD, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and judgments.
5. Each of these men had a heart change not just a mind change.
6. John 14:23, Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
a) Here Christ Himself tells us that it is through love that everything is to be done
We don’t come to church because it is the right thing to do.
We don’t obey God's Word because it is the right thing to do.
We do all this because we are falling in love with God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit and we want to please Him.
The more we know the deeper we fall in love. We than have that relationship with God.
John 21:15-17,15 So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. 16 He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep. 17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
That is all God asks of us is to love Him with all our heart and mind.
Matthew 22:37, Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
