Psalms 37:4-7

I.       Look back In verses 1-2

A.    God reminds us again on what we spoke on last we

B.    We are not to look at the prosperity of the unsaved

C.    As it says in verse 2 they are like the grass that will wither and die

II.     Now lets look in verse 4

A.    We are to trust in the Lord who can answer prayers

1.     Philippians 4:6-7,6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus

B.    With the condition of “Delight thy self in the Lord”

1.     Delight means = to make merry, pleasing to the senses

a)     We are to enjoy being in the presence of God when we come to church or read our Bibles

2.     God will give you the desires of your heart

a)     John 15:7, If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you

3.     What does this mean?

a)     When our heart is set towards God, we will have the mind of God

b)     Having the mind of God, we will ask for the things which please Him

c)     The things which God wants us to do and how we live our life will change within us.

(1)   Our desires will change as we trust in God
(2)   1 Peter 1:8, Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory

C.    Back in verse 4 God tells us that He will give us the desires

1.     What would be the desires of our hearts?

a)     Ephesians 3:20, Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us

b)     According to the power that works in us

c)     When God works in our lives, our desires will be the things God wants for us

III.    Next in verse 5 God tell us to Commit

A.    The word Commit means to “roll”

1.     When one starts to roll down a hill one can not stop

2.     Once you start you are committed.

a)     When I went skiing on double black diamond slop, I had to commit to it.

3.     Take that first step and commit

B.    Once you commit than you have to trust

1.     Psalm 55:22, Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

2.     Just like rolling down a hill

3.     It is hard to stop once you start rolling

C.    What God is telling us here is to give Him time to work in our lives

1.     Turn to Psalm 90:4, For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the nights

2.     2 Peter 3:8, But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day

3.     Time is nothing to God, and we make it everything to us.

IV.   Now lets look in verse 7

A.    Here it uses the word “rest”

1.     Which means – still, to be still or silent

2.     A baby in the harms of their parents

a)     That baby knows it is in the most secured place it can be

b)     The baby is at perfect rest

B.    So being at rest, we are to wait paiently on God to work out our problems

C.    Fred not at the unsaved, they will have their day

Conclusion:  Delight, desires, commit, and rest are words we need to take to heart.

Than you will really know what it means to have joy unspeakable and full of happiness
