Resurrection of Christ
Introduction: today we celebrate Easter. What does it mean and why is it so important. Was not Christ’s death enough? What is the big deal about His resurrection?
Turn to Romans 8:33-34
33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us
I. I had done some research years ago and found out that Christ is the only God who has risen.
A. Maybe you know of one that I don’t know about.
B. Christ is the only one.
1. Why is that so important?
II. As you can see in verse 34 “yea rather, that is risen again”.
A. Christ resurrection is proof of a full atonement.
1. Romans 4:25, Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.
a) Christ had to died for our sins so we can get to heaven, but He had to rise up out of the grave for us to have a victorious life here on earth as well as to make a full atonement.
B. Salvation is not just going to heaven.
1. It is also what kind of life we can have while we are on earth as Christians.
III. When Christ rose again from the grave, He goes to heaven.
A. Romans 5:9-10,9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
1. We now can have victory in our day to day life because Christ rose and went to heaven at the right side of God interceding for us.
B. Romans 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
1. We need to be depended on Christ to help us each and every day.
2. Can you imagine having 1 million dollars in the bank and never using some of it?
a) All you do is live off your own money you made at work.
b) Everyone who gets saved has a bank a count, which is Jesus Christ.
(1) You can go to Christ for every need you have.
(2) You can withdraw from it as many times as needed in a day.
C. Romans 6:4-13,4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.7 For he that is dead is freed from sin. 8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
