I.       David goes to number the people in verse 1.

A.    Joab, one of David best friends  and captains tries to talk him out of it. (Verse 3-4)

B.    In verse 10 David realizes that he has sinned and asks God to forgive him.

C.    God allows David to chose his punishment.

1.     Three years of famine.

2.     Three months of military defeat.

3.     Three days of plague.

D.    David chooses three days of plague, which results in 70,000 deaths through out Israel.

E.     God stops the angel of death and at the same time David prays that his people where not the blame and to put the punishment on him.

II.     God tell David to go and tells him to build an altar and sacrifice to him.

A.    God tells David to go to Araunah’s threshing floor.

1.     He is to build a altar and sacrifice unto the Lord.

B.    Araunah wants to give the threshing floor to David.

1.     Also the wood that is needed.

2.     The animals, which will be needed as well.

C.    David tells him that he will not sacrifice anything that costs him nothing. (Verse 24)

1.     David buys the threshing floor and everything with it.

a)     This is the spot where Solomon builds the temple later.

III.    What are the lesson here that we can learn from?

A.    David would not give to God anything that cost him nothing.

B.    Why is it we give to God what is left over or convenient to us.

1.     When we come here does it sometimes take effort?

2.     When we give to God is it what is convenient to us.

3.     Are some things more important than coming to God to learn?

4.     Do we give to God what cost us nothing?

C.    Romans 12:1,1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

1.     What does it mean to present our bodies?

2.     We need to present our selves to God each day by putting Him first.

a)     When its time to go to church and you are tired, you go anyhow.

b)     When you give to God, you give not of extras, but you pray and ask God what He would have you give.

c)     Each of us can come up with something to say why we can’t make it to a service or give or what ever. But God knows the heart.

d)     Will you give to God what is convenient to you or what cost you something.

D.    David said I would not give God that which cost me nothing.

E.     Who deserves the most from us in our lives?

Conclusion:  David made up his mind, that he would never give to God that which cost him nothing. What about us? Will we do the same? David never lived to regret it.

I talk from experience, that you will never regret it when God comes first in your live in everything. That you present you bodies a living sacrifice unto God. Don’t give back to God what cost you nothing.

God will take care of you if you let Him.
