Thanksgiving

Philippians 1:3-6,

3 I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, 4 Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy, 5 For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now; 6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.

We will celibrate Thanksgiving this Thursday. It is a time for giving thanks in our lives.

As Christians we have a lot more to be thankfull for. Our salvation, God working in our lives, the peace we have in our hearst as born again christians.

Lets take a look at these verses and see what God has for us today.

I.       In verses 3-5 Paul is thanking God for the way He is working in the Philippians’ church.

A.    A literal translation would be: “All my remembrance of you causes me to thank God”.

B.    One of my challenges for you today is to think the same way as Paul did

1.     Colossians 4:2, Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;

C.    The things we see in our lives which God does should case us to give thanks to God

D.    Thanksgiving is a day set apart for us as a nation to give thanks.

1.     We as Christians have so much more to be thankful for

II.     Look back in verse 6

A.    “Being confident of this very thing”

1.     When we look back on what God has been doing in our lives, we should be confident that He could do more.

2.     2 Corinthians 9:11, Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God.

B.    “That He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ”

1.     God started off making a way for all of us to get saved.

2.     Now we can look back on our life and see how God has been working.

3.     Philippians 4:6, Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

4.     This Thursday we need to look back on this year and give thanks to God for what He has done.

Conclusion:

Thanks is found 41 times in the New Testament, Thanksgiving is found 15 times in the New Testament.

Colossians 2:7, Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

2 Corinthians 4:15, For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God.

What does God want from us? He wants our praise and our honor that He is the one who saved us, He is the one who loves us like no other, He is the one who has all mercey and grace towards us

To God be the glory great things He has done

He is the one who answers prayers, He is the one who opens doors and closes them.

God is the one that does it all, give Him thanksgiving each day and this Thanksgiving give Him a special thanksgiving, one like you have never done before.
