Their Unbelief

Matthew 13:58, And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.

I do not know if you have ever thought of this, but we limit Gods work in our life. God has taught me that I am my worst enemy

I.       First of all lets look at this, Christ did many might works

A.    We have lot of records that show Christ did many works in the lives of those who had faith

B.    Luke 5:20, And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee.

C.    Mark 2:5, When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.

D.    Matthew 9:2, And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy; Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee.

E.     Mark 10:52, And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.

F.     These are just a couple of examples of what christ did

II.     Secondly we see that, God wants to do many mighty works in our lives

A.    Matthew 11:28, Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

B.    For the last 2 weeks we have heard how God wants us to have a joyful life

1.     John 16:24, Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

2.     John 15:11, These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

C.    Now does this look like a God who want to make our live missable?

III.    What stops God is our unbelief

A.    Note in Matt 13:58 what it was that limited the power of God when He was there. It was their unbelief

B.    Christ did heal some that did not have strong faith, but did have some faith

C.    Here in Matthew 13 Christ was visiting his home town for the second time.

1.     The first time the totally rejected him

2.     This time the listen to Him, but still could not get over that this was the Jesus that played and grow up there

3.     Unbelief: — An empty vessel capable of holding water, if tightly corked, none can enter it, though water is poured upon it in great abundance; nay, it may be thrown into the sea, and still remain empty. So it is with our. hearts; unbelief closes them, so that the water of life cannot fill them, however abundantly it may be poured upon and around us. Could not do many mighty works, etc. Unbelief hinders grace. This sin not only locks up the heart of a sinner, but also binds up the hands of a Saviour. (Burkitt.)

D.    Mark 9:24, And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.

E.     1 Timothy 4:12, Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

Conclusion:

Romans 4:20, He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;

This is what Abraham did and so can we

Romans 10:17, So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Hebrews 11:6, But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Do you diligently seek God?
