Laying on of Hands
Laying on of Hands
1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,
2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.
A good foundation is revealed when tested

24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
The imagery of the story
++Two men
++Two building projects
++Two storms
++Two different outcomes
Both men
++Built a House
++Endured similar storms
13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
In this life
++There will be rain
++There will be wind
++There will be floods
++There will be some hard knocks
We can endure all that comes
++if we have a firm foundation
++If we build our life upon a rock
Jesus said a wise man builds his house
++on a rock
++a firm foundation
Jesus also said a foolish man builds his house
++On sand
++No Foundation
This was
++an understood concept
++not new information
Jesus as using a known to reveal an unknown.
Jesus as using a known to reveal an unknown.
This was only imagery
Jesus was communicating a deeper truth
What he was teaching had nothing
++to do with construction
++Storms
++Building foundation
Jesus was explaining the importance of hearing His word
Jesus was explaining the importance of hearing His word
To hear is
++To listening to
++To Hearken
++To incline yourself
++To Understand
7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.
Lord, Let our ears be opened, be tuned in to you
Both men
++heard the word
++got busy with the project
Only one man did it God’s way
Only one man did it God’s way
God’s way
++May take a bit longer
++May not be as easy
There is a benefit when you do it God’s way.
There is a benefit when you do it God’s way.
6 For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: But the way of the ungodly shall perish.
12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, But the end thereof are the ways of death.
What is the Laying on of Hands?

The Laying on of Hands
Divine Healing
++Demonstration of miraculous power
17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

++In blessing
9 And Joseph said unto his father, They are my sons, whom God hath given me in this place. And he said, Bring them, I pray thee, unto me, and I will bless them.
14 And Israel stretched out his right hand, and laid it upon Ephraim’s head, who was the younger, and his left hand upon Manasseh’s head, guiding his hands wittingly; for Manasseh was the firstborn.
15 And he blessed Joseph, and said, God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac did walk, the God which fed me all my life long unto this day,

6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.

++In Commissioning to the Lords work
Commissioning to serve
++Is a high honor
18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Is a high honor
++expanded the work of the Gospel
6 Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.
7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

++was to be done with care
22 Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men’s sins: keep thyself pure.
The basic premise of this doctrine
++We do not just go into service
++We don’t just do it
14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
Paul recognized that
++Though God had given him great revelation
++It alone did not empower him to act
9 And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision.
It was a gift
empowerment
6 Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.
