When Things Turn Around

Job 42:10–13 KJV 1900
10 And the Lord turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before. 11 Then came there unto him all his brethren, and all his sisters, and all they that had been of his acquaintance before, and did eat bread with him in his house: and they bemoaned him, and comforted him over all the evil that the Lord had brought upon him: every man also gave him a piece of money, and every one an earring of gold. 12 So the Lord blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses. 13 He had also seven sons and three daughters.
We all know the story of Job...
Sometimes we read a story and can picture ourselves in the event -
maybe Paul and Silas singing while in prison
Maybe David as he accepts the challenge of Goliath
Maybe it is Mary sitting at the feet of Jesus - worshipping the Savior
Maybe it is Martha -cumbered about with much serving -
Maybe even a story of failure - like Peter when he said - “I go a fishing...”
We can see ourselves in these human story’s...
But the story of Job is not one that we would want to identify with, nor can we identify with the unbelievable amount of hurt and depth of injury...
Job had a rough time...
But it was for a season...
The Christian life
Life in general is composed of seasons...
Just as there are seasons of the year:
Spring
Summer
Fall
Winter
There are seasons of life...
stages of life...
The Job family had a rough season...
Bro. Job
Mrs. Job
Job’s children
Job’s employee’s
The Job family had a rough year...
Scholars believe that job was about 60 years old when all of this took place -
(the year would have been approx 1967 BC)
Job lived for 140 years after this terrible year… approx 200 years old… (Bro. Ludwick is close - 169 :)
But the year of 1967 BC was a bad year - but it got better in 1966 (years count down BC)
Job 42:10 KJV 1900
10 And the Lord turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.

When Things Turn Around

42.10 - “And the Lord turned the captivity of Job...”
Turned… - to restore...
to bring back into original existence, use, function or position
Captivity… way of life - fortune
a way of life, or the general conditions of a time of life...
God turned, God restored, God brought Job’s life and the way of life back to the general “blessed” conditions that had been before...
2020 has been a year...
It has been a year - “2020 Focused Faith” - Looking unto Jesus...
Hebrews 12:2 KJV 1900
2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
It has been a year of:
Pandemic
Health Concerns
Racial division
Socialism & Government overreach
Cultural shift
it has been a year...
It’s a year that I would not have planned for in my life… and I know that has been the case for most of us...
Peoples lives have been turned upside down
People’s faith has been shaken
But I have not personally seen
the sense of revival that we “know” that we need...
the leading, direction and clarity of direction - everything is changing so quickly, it seems as though we are in a state of constant adjustment and reaction to all the “new” things of our day...
But tonight, I want to encourage all of us… myself included…
Job 42:10 KJV 1900
10 And the Lord turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.

When Things Turn Around

This season is going to turn around...

Several observations about when things turned around for Job.
Job was humbled
Job Heard

5  I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear:

But now mine eye seeth thee.

6  Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent

In dust and lashes.

i. God hates pride
Job recognized that though the situation was not a result of sinful behavior, he was not w/o faults -
Job 42:1–3 KJV 1900
1 Then Job answered the Lord, and said, 2 I know that thou canst do every thing, And that no thought can be withholden from thee. 3 Who is he that hideth counsel Without knowledge? Therefore have I uttered that I understood not; Things too wonderful for me, which I knew not.
Psalm 139:23–24 KJV 1900
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: Try me, and know my thoughts: 24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.

Job was healed
Job 42:7–10 KJV 1900
7 And it was so, that after the Lord had spoken these words unto Job, the Lord said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath. 8 Therefore take unto you now seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you: for him will I accept: lest I deal with you after your folly, in that ye have not spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant Job. 9 So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went, and did according as the Lord commanded them: the Lord also accepted Job. 10 And the Lord turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.
Job was Honored
