We Can Find Rest

You know what is great about God? He knows your needs and speaks to me to prepare a sermon, which will help you. I don’t know what all your needs are, but God does and leads me to prepare this sermon today. Turn to,

Matthew 11:28-30,28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

I.       God tells us to come unto Him

A.    Who is He asking to come?

1.     Labor – another way of saying this is “all who are weary”

a)     Those tired from hard toil

b)     This carries the idea of working to the point of utter exhaustion

c)     Are you tired of the problems each of you having in this life?

2.     Heavy laden means “Loaded down”

a)     Are you loaded down with some much that sometimes you don’t know if you can handle it?

B.    God is telling us to come out of that blizzard

1.     He is telling us to come out of the storm into a warm house with a nice cup of coffee and a comfortable chair to rest in

2.     Which leads to our next point

II.     God tell us to take His yoke upon us. This is how we are to come out of the stom

A.    A yoke was a wooden bar that two animals could be put together so as to work together as one

B.    God is telling us here that if we put on the yoke, Christ can help us bear the burden

1.     There are two points here to think about

a)     One, Christ is in the other yoke helping us

b)     God is leading us (on the wagon) in which direction we should be going

C.    In verse 29 God said “learn of me”

1.     The more we learn of God the fewer burdens will get us down. How is that possible?

2.     We will know what God will do, when we have these every day problem fall on us

3.     1 Corinthians 10:13,13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

D.    1 John 5:3, For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

E.     The yoke is simpley leading. God lead us through each problem

III.    God tell us that we will find rest if we do point I and II

A.    God's yoke is not hard for us to follow

1.     When we work for our employer, he want us to produce as to make him money

2.     That task can be very hard at times

3.     The writer here is thinking of the slavery of their day and how they push them and whip them to obey

4.     God is telling us that when we put on His yoke, that is following him and doing his will, it will be light

B.    We in turn can find rest and comfort in His leading

1.     In verse 29 the phrase “ye shall find rest” means to refresh or revive from a long journey

a)     We were talking about the blizzard or a storm earlier

2.     Another dictionary meaning is “to enter God’s rest is to cease from all efforts at self-help

C.    Philippians 1:6, Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

1.     We can rest assured that God will do what he said He will do

D.    Philippians 4:19, But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

1.     We have to learn to trust God that He can take care of us in what ever problem we are in, in the moment

2.     It is according to his riches, what a resource

Conclusion:

We have a chose here today,

We can go on doing everything ourselfs and feel the hardships or

We can put on the yoke of God and let Him lead us and find rest
