What Are You Thinking

Several weeks ago, God spoke to my heart about what we think we are. If you think negative thoughts, you will be negative, If you think positive thoughts you will be a positive person. Lets take a closer look at this.

Proverbs 23:7, For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.

I.       What is in a man’s heart?

A.    Henry Ford once said “Thinking is the hardest work there is, which is the probable reason why so few engage in it.” - 1929

B.    What do you think about?

1.     This morning I want you to think about what is on your mind most of the time?

2.     For the Bible tells us here, as a person thinketh in his heart, so is he”

C.    So what are you obsessed with in your thinking?

1.     What do you think the most about each and every day of your life?

2.     Does it change from day to day?

II.     What does God mean when He tells us “so is he”?

A.    If you are thinking about being a good house wife, that is what you will be

B.    If you think I am a good father or husband that is what you will be.

C.    If what ever you trade you are in, if you think you are good at it, you are properly are.

D.    Now this works both ways, let me explain

1.     If you think you are a failure that is what you will be.

a)     If you say something like this, “I will never get this done” you will not do it.

b)     The first two weeks of collage more students drop out than any other time of the year.

E.     Remember the old book (The Little Train That Could)

a)     The book taught us that we can do what we put our minds to do?

b)     And that is what God is telling us here in Proverbs 23:7

2.     A man had bought a new gadget-unassembled, of course—and after reading and rereading the instructions he couldn’t figure out how it went together. Finally, he sought the help of an old handyman who was working in the backyard. The old fellow picked up the pieces, studied them, then began assembling the gadget. In a short time, he had it put together. “That’s amazing,” said the man. “And you did it without even looking at the instructions!” “Fact is,” said the old man, “I can’t read, and when a fellow can’t read, he’s got to think.” (Bits and Pieces, February, 1990, p. 23)

3.     We forget how powerful thinking is

4.     We think and make decisions each every day

5.     Why is it some people seem to make everything work and others don’t?

6.     How many here remember MacGyver on TV

III.    So why do you think God put this here for us to learn?

A.    Philippians 4:8-9,8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. 9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.

1.     So God gives us this big list and tells us to “think on these things”

2.     Remember what God told us in the beginning, “as he thinketh in his heart, so is he”

3.     So if we take this list of things in Philippians 4:8-9 and think on them, that is what we will be.

4.     This is so simple and it is also so profound

B.    Romans 8:6-8,6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. 8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

1.     If you think on the things that will not please God you are not going to please Him

2.     You want to be Spiritual minded; do you want to grow this year? Think on these things. The things that God wants you to think about

Conclusion: What you fill your mind with each day is what you will be

Have you ever wondered why some people seem to have so much and others do not?

I have seen some children who grew up and had cars at a young age and others did not get a car until after the got out of school

I have seen some couples get their first house a few years after they are married while others do not get their first house until many years down the road.

Why is that? I believe that God's verse here tells us the secret

Kids seem to follow their parents. They think the same way their parents think

Philippians 2:5, Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

What you think in your heart, so are you

Philippians 4:13, I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

What you think in your heart, so are you
