Paul’s Missionary journeys — region of Galatia — modern day Turkey.
Galatians 1:1–10 ESV
1 Paul, an apostle—not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead— 2 and all the brothers who are with me, To the churches of Galatia: 3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, 4 who gave himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, 5 to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen. 6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— 7 not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. 9 As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed. 10 For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.
But along the way, they made a trade… they traded the authentic gospel Paul preached for:
A ‘deserting’ one
A ‘different’ one;
A ‘distorted’ one.
On First hearing, may sound like things they are facing that we have not or are not or whatever...

Paul steps toward the Galatians — as one with authority — to remind them of the authentic, genuine gospel that he preached to them.
He presents himself as an Apostle — one who has seen Jesus face to face and been with him. (Acts 9)
Galatians 1:1–2 ESV
1 Paul, an apostle—not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead— 2 and all the brothers who are with me, To the churches of Galatia:
Paul’s calling as an Apostle was of God; it was not something Paul wanted or pursued or expected
His being called as an Apostle was as unlikely as Jesus being raised from the dead!
The Church has virtually lost all sense of authority.
When you give everyone a Bible… give them all a priesthood… the next thing you know — authority is hard to find.
For the rank and file… since guys like me are all in disagreement or dissonance with each other, you do one of a few things:
Put Your Soldier On. Become fully and totally loyal to one stripe/brand/theological system
Dive In. Decide to dive in and do your own study — I don’t just mean read it devotionally or attentively… I mean study it.
Show up but resign. Find yourself so confused by all the preacher noise that you just turn down the radio and turn off the Bible figuring if preachers/teachers can’t figure it out, there’s a good chance you won’t be able to figure it out.
Attention Walmart Shoppers. Pick the parts you like and just make up your own belief system. (Bott and TBN)
Embrace love — not war. “I just can’t understand why we can’t all just get along.”
Church is a Beach. Quit and head for the boat.
Paul is making the case in Galatians that the Gospel of Jesus is clearly knowable… for at its coming, the dawn of a new age broke through.
Galatians 1:3–5 ESV
3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, 4 who gave himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, 5 to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.
Grace and peace have come to us from God the Father and his son, jesus Christ — and we have been delivered from sin… and the evil of this age is done and the will of God has been revealed — and if and when he walks into the room… we will be tripping over living room furniture to give him glory.

Galatians 1:6–10 ESV
6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— 7 not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. 9 As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed. 10 For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? 1 Corinthians 15:1–10 ESV
1 Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, 2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, 5 and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6 Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. 7 Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. 8 Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me. 9 For I am the least of the apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me.
