The moment we are living is dangerous! The lurking danger is everywhere we go...
The number of contagious in many states has increased again. People are not taking the due precautions and are being exposed to the virus.
David had not done anything wrong to deserve being persecuted by Saul. His life was in danger!
Read Psa 57
Using the words of David in this poem or song, the Bible teaches us that we are safe in His hands. Three reasons:

Only God can protect us.

David’s cry was for protection and mercy.
Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy! I look to you for protection. I will hide beneath the shadow of your wings until the danger passes by.” 1
Danger does not last forever! It will pass by! (“No hay mal que dure 100 años ni cuerpo que lo resista.”). But in the meanwhile, we must hide under the Lord’s protection.
Proverbs 27:12 NLT
A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.
“beneath the shadow of your wings” reminds us of the way the hen protect her chicken. God wants to protect His people. His protection is always available to those who seek Him. But those who reject the protection He offers will be devoured by the predator.
Matthew 23:37 NASB95
“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were unwilling.
He will protect us because He has a purpose for our life.

He has a purpose for our life.

I cry out to God Most High, to God who will fulfill his purpose for me.” v. 2
Everything that God has made has been made with a purpose. The sun to provide light and heat, the moon to reflect light and produce the tides, the plants to produce oxygen and feed man and animals, man to worship God.
Apart from worshipping God, every man has a mission, a purpose in life that he must fulfill.
Proverbs 16:4 NLT
The Lord has made everything for his own purposes, even the wicked for a day of disaster.
This verse forces us to think about one of the most fundamental questions of life, the question of meaning, What I am here for?
We were made with a purpose! It is our job to find out what that purpose is! David was created to be king of Israel. Saul was trying to avoid the fulfillment. David was created to be part of the genealogy of Jesus, but he did not have children yet.
Apart from worshipping God, What is your purpose in life?

He’ll keep us safe until the purpose is fulfilled.

v. 3
If you are alive is for one reason: God still has a purpose for you. Otherwise, He would have already taken you. God wants to use for that purpose!
God does not force His purpose on anyone. God wants to save all, but some people reject God’s purpose:
Luke 7:29–30 NASB95
When all the people and the tax collectors heard this, they acknowledged God’s justice, having been baptized with the baptism of John. But the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected God’s purpose for themselves, not having been baptized by John.
Their religion was more important than God’s purpose for their life.
David was confident that God wouldn’t take him until he had fulfilled the reason why he was created.

God must exalted on Heaven and earth.

This psalm is written in two sections (1-5 and 6-11), and, at the end of every section, David expresses the consuming desire of his heart: that God may be exalted in the dangerous situation he was facing!
Be exalted, O God, above the highest heavens! May your glory shine over all the earth.” v. 5, 11

Despite the power of the enemies.

David felt like a man about to be devoured by lions.
I am surrounded by fierce lions who greedily devour human prey- whose teeth pierce like spears and arrows, and whose tongues cut like swords.” 4
He felt like sleeping surrounded by hungry dragons.
Saul’s army was extremely powerful. David knew it because he had fought along their side against the Philistine. He knew their killing capacity. They were like hungry lions or dragons!
They had sharp tongues! The devil uses the tongues of people to harm others. Some had told Saul that David was his enemy, that he wanted to take his kingdom. Total lies coming from the dragon, the old serpent, the father of all lies.
When God is on your side, no matter how powerful the enemy might be, who do you think is going to end victorious?
“If God is for us, who can ever be against us?” (Rom 8:31)
He is exalted because victory and vengeance belongs to the Lord.

Despite the traps they devise.

My enemies have set a trap for me. I am weary from distress. They have dug a deep pit in my path, but they themselves have fallen into it.” v. 6
That was the fulfillment of the common phrase “he laugh last, laugh best!”
Thirty something years in ministry have allowed me to see that many times. People who intended harm for me, fell into their own trap.
Look at David’s words on Psa 64
Read Psa 64
God exalts Himself when he defends the righteous from his enemies.
Given such salvation, the least that we can say is “Thank you, Lord!”

God must receive our gratitude.

I will thank you, Lord, among all people.” v. 9a

Keeping an awake heart.

Wake up, my heart! Wake up, O lyre and harp! I will wake the dawn with my song.” v. 8
Sometimes we fall into spiritual lethargy, and we need a wake up call!
Many Christians have the tendency to wait until the problem or the illness comes to get close to God. Relationship with God is not a matter of once a week, but of everyday!
Come to Him in prayer everyday, come to His Word everyday! Do not wait for a wake up call. It could be too late!

Singing praises to Him.

My heart is confident in you, O God; my heart is confident. No wonder I can sing your praises!” 7
I will sing your praises among the nations.” 9b
He deserves all praises! He is God, the Almighty!
Psalm 34:6 NLT
In my desperation I prayed, and the Lord listened; he saved me from all my troubles.
Psalm 34:4 NLT
I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me. He freed me from all my fears.
2 Samuel 22:50 NLT
For this, O Lord, I will praise you among the nations; I will sing praises to your name.
1 Chronicles 16:9 NLT
Sing to him; yes, sing his praises. Tell everyone about his wonderful deeds.
1 Chronicles 16:25 NLT
Great is the Lord! He is most worthy of praise! He is to be feared above all gods.

Acknowledging His faithfulness and truth.

David is praising God, not only because He saved him, but because he acknowledged that God’s faithfulness and love for Him was indescribable.
I will sing praises among the nations. For your unfailing love is as high as the heavens. Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.” v. 10
That’s exactly the same love God has shown for us, but in our case, He went further: He sacrificed His own Son to save us from the enemy:
1 John 4:9 NLT
God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him.
Despite our unfaithfulness, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself.
Let’s acknowledge His truth by speaking the truth, by coming to the Truth, and by proclaiming the Truth, Jesus! He said,
“I am the way, the truth, and the life, and no one comes to the Father, but thru Me.”
