Challenge of the Cross
Jesus was not afraid of Herod or the Jews. The Romans were really no concern. He came into this world to do this..
Jesus’ message to the Jews, repent and enter the kingdom. “They alway resist the Holy Spirit” (Acts 7:51).
Contrast two groups at the beginning of the chapter: Those who could reciprocate and those that could not:
Places of honor usually reserved for : rank, reputation, or age. BUT
Those that could: friends, brothers, relatives, and rich neighbors
Those that could not: the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind
3. The reward reward comes not by the recipient, but from the Lord on the day of Judgment.
The New American Commentary: Luke Comments
Will be humbled … exalted. These divine passives mean God will humble (or exalt) you at the final judgment.
