Romans 5:18-21 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. 19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. 20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: 21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

Introduction

This morning we ended the message by talking about the “Wonderful Gift of God”
Quiz: What were the two parts of the “Gift of God”
Christ’s Righteousness - Sinless Perfection
Eternal Life
John 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
That is a “Wonderful” gift, but the gift is a product of God’s Grace.
The Grace of God is the reason for the gift.
We don’t get a gift from God because we earned it!
We get the gift because of HIS GRACE.
This morning we looked at “The Wonderful Gift of God,” tonight we are going to look at “The Wonderful Grace of God”

Outline

The Condemnation of the Law
The Control of Sin
The Amazing Grace of God
Pray

I. The Condemnation of the Law

Romans 5:20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound...
God gave us the Law to reveal our sins to us.
People have the tendency to excuse their sin AND the children’s sin
Excuses:
I needed the money, I have to feed my kids, that’s why I robbed the bank...
“I deserve the money”
I needed the money more than you...
My Yaahz he is sooo hard working, he needed a drink after work.
NO, if he was working hard, he is probably DEHYDRATED, he needs water!
You buying him drinks is contributing to his problem
3. I get lonely, and I have needs, so that’s why I sleep around.
Hebrews 13:4 Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.
We can make ALL KIND of excuses and justifications for our sin, but the LAW reveals our sin to us.
Turn to: Romans 3:20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
The Law of God tells us we are sinners, that is how we get the understanding of what sin is!
God has also written the law in our hearts (Con Science)
Turn to: Romans 2:14-15 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: 15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)
The law makes our sin look more sinful (increases the contrast of sin)
We think everything is in gray area...
The Bible makes things clearer to us, so we can’t excuse our sin.
Romans 7:13 Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.
James 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
The Law condemns us, so we won’t look to ourselves for the solution (PRIDE)
The Law Points us to Christ (we need Humility and Faith)
Galatians 3:24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

II. The Control of Sin

Romans 5:21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.
Sin wants to have control over you
Sin wants to sit on the throne of your life and keep you in bondage
Sin wants to reign until it can strangle you and kill
Sin is like a serpent
Sin is not your friend
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Your sin will lead your to your own demise!
You are killing yourself with your own sin.
DON’T DO IT!
Romans 6:9-14 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. 10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. 11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. 12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. 13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. 14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
It’s time to get rid of the sinful devices that keep us in BONDAGE!
Drugs and Alcohol go to go (God wants us to be sober and to have a sound mind)
Pornography needs to go
The person you are living with, that you are not married to…needs to go
That bitterness and and spirit of forgiveness
That attitude of PRIDE needs to go
Get rid of all the junk that is clogging up your life, and give your life back to Jesus so he can put all the pieces back together again.

III. God’s Amazing Grace

Romans 5:20-21 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: 21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.
1 Timothy 1:14 And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

The Grace of God is not a License to Sin

Titus 2:11-13 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; 13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;

The Grace of God is our Teacher

Titus 2:12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

If we say that we are saved we should resemble Jesus

1 John 2:6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
1 Peter 2:21-22 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: 22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:

Grace is not an excuse to sin

Romans 6:1-2 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
Jesus was full of Grace, but he never sinned.
John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Grace teaches us to serve others

Galatians 5:13 For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.

Conclusion

God’s Amazing Grace gives us the liberty to live for Jesus and to serve Him.
Let the grace of God reign in your life
Step down from the throne…Let Jesus back on the Throne
Hand Jesus the wheel, stop letting him be the “Co-pilot” and let him be the PILOT of your life.
Romans 5:20-21 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: 21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.
