Human Tradition

Traditions some good some bad made by people to fulfill a purpose.

Elemental Spirits

The most basic things this world has to direct us.

Not According to Christ

Fullness of deity dwells bodily
You are filled in him
Ephesians 4:6 ESV
one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
Colossians 1:17 ESV
And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
He is the head of all rule
He is the head of all authority
In him you were circumcised
Romans 2:29 ESV
But a Jew is one inwardly, and circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter. His praise is not from man but from God.
Prior to Christ circumcision was intended to be an outward expression of an internal intention to be set apart for God
With Christ we are circumcised in our hearts and set apart for Him
We are buried with Him in baptism
1 Peter 3:21 ESV
Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
Prior to Christ, baptism was an outward expression of an inward desire to be clean and purified before God
But with Christ he has made us dead to our trespasses and alive in him.
Colossians 2:12–14 ESV
having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead. And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.
He disarmed rulers and authorities
Ephesians 1:21 ESV
far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.
Put them to open shame by triumphing over them
Pharisees - religious rulers - that ruled by enforcing traditions and making new ones to support the old ones.
Romans - exercised authority by rules and introduced many false Gods. Not led by a moral code, but a code built on sensual desires.... meaning what made them feel good.
These 2 elements came together with all their might to put Christ down but found themselves made fools.

Let No One Disqualify You

Philosophy and Empty Deceit

Food or Drink

Festivals, New Moons, a Sabbath

Substance Belongs to Christ

Asceticism and Worship of Angels

Asceticism -

the practice of strict self-denial as a measure of personal and especially spiritual discipline : the condition, practice, or mode of life of an ascetic : rigorous abstention from self-indulgence

Worship of Angels

Going in detail about visions
Puffed up without reason
Coming from a sensuous mind
Not holding fast to the Head

Elemental Spirits

KJV - rudiments -
a bigger word to include both worship of angels and the strict adherence to tradition
The world apart from God is lead by a mix of emotional responses to things that lead to rules and regulations founded not in Christ but in the emotions we want to have… we all want to feel good.
Rules come from God - but are NOT God
The strict adherence to human tradition to the point of worshipping that tradition is done by a spirit outside of the Spirit of God.
Visions, prophesies, emotions come from God - but are NOT God
The strict adherence to the visions, prophetic saying, new ways, etc. to the point that we worship them, is done by a spirit outside of the Spirit of God.
They look wise but are lies
Colossians 2:23 ESV
These have indeed an appearance of wisdom in promoting self-made religion and asceticism and severity to the body, but they are of no value in stopping the indulgence of the flesh.

What Should We Learn

Remember that in all things Christ is before all things and in HIM all things are held together.
Do not be caught by the worshipping of tradition and the senses vs. the worshipping of Christ.
Do not let other disqualify you for worshipping of Christ vs. their worshipping of traditions and their senses.
And it begs repeating, remember that in all things Christ is before all things and in HIM all things are held together.
Colossians 2:6–7 ESV
Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.
