Biblical Foundations
1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,
2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.
A foundation is what you build upon

The Principles of the doctrine of Christ
++Repentance
++Faith
++Baptisms
++Laying on of Hands
Principles provide the foundation
Principles provide the foundation
Principles are
++The basis for what we do
++They are the why for the what
Principles also denote
++The start of something
++The beginning
11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
There is a time
++Were play is acceptable
++When errors are overlook
30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:
30 The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent,
30 “God overlooked the times when people didn’t know any better. But now he commands everyone everywhere to turn to him and change the way they think and act.
God allows things opportunity to Grow
God allows things opportunity to Grow
Growth is a process
++Trail and error
++Learning from our experience
++Learning from successes
++Learning from failure
We can even learn from a fall.
We can even learn from a fall.
Sometimes it is in the fall that we learn the most valuable lessons.
They can at least be the most memorable
Life will place a demand on maturing
++Maturity in our thinking
++Maturity in our actions
When does a man reach maturity?
++When he gets his first job?
++When He buy his first car?
++When he can vote?
Sometimes maturity is
++birth from pain
++Lesson from loss
We are charged to move from principle to perfection.
We are charged to move from principle to perfection.
1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,
Perfection is though of as
++Being error free
++Being without flaw
It doesn’t take long to realize how challenging this is
What does the writer mean by perfection?

Perfection is
++To be complete
++To be Mature
++To grow up
Resurrection of the Dead
Resurrection of the Dead
When Jesus was the teacher
++He was asked challenging questions
++He maintained His focus
++He rarely answered questions
++He directed student to discovery
23 The same day came to him the Sadducees, which say that there is no resurrection, and asked him,
24 Saying, Master, Moses said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
25 Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no issue, left his wife unto his brother:
26 Likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh.
27 And last of all the woman died also.
28 Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her.
29 Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.
They asked a question
++About something they didn’t believe in
++Hoping to stump the teacher
Jesus told them
++They were in error
++They did not know the scripture
++They did not know the power of God
They spoke of the resurrection
++From an earthly perspective
++Based upon human perception
The resurrection is
++Not earthly
++A change
++To be like him
50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.
51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
Jesus said the issue had already been addressed

31 But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying,
32 I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.
The nature of God is to be
++I am
++Not I Was
++But I am
22 While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.
7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
The resurrection is
++Reward of the believer
13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
The resurrection is
Reward of the believer
++Hope of the believer
23 Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.
24 Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.
The resurrection is
Reward of the believer
Hope of the believer
++Horror for the unbeliever
28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,
29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
The resurrection is
Reward of the believer
Hope of the believer
Horror for the unbeliever
++Help of the believer
35 Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:
22 While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.
Life is balanced by extremes
++Seedtime and Harvest
++Cold and Heat
++Summer and winter
++Day and night
41 There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory.
42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:
43 It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power:
44 It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.
45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.
49 And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.
