Why did the Psalmist keep God’s laws?
Why did the Psalmist keep God’s laws?
The Psalmist kept God’s laws For protection, the psalmist trusted God to keep him safe.....—Psalm 119:11 “I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you." God’s Word not only saves from sin—it keeps us from sinning. As we hide His Word in our hearts, we build up spiritual strength, which helps us resist and overcome sin. Anyone having to “overcome sin” this past week?

The Psalmist kept God’s laws For power----Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. God’s Word exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.”...................is it any wonder we don’t read it?

There is power in God’s Word not only to enlighten, but also to expose. It shows our shortcomings. It shows any secret sins, our dark places. The Bible keeps us from sin; sin keeps us from the Bible. AMEN

The psalmist kept God’s laws For pleasure—Jeremiah 15:16
“When I discovered your words, I devoured them. They are my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear your name, O Lord God of Heaven’s Armies.” He found God’s words and ate them. There is pleasure in reading God’s Word. When the Bible stays closed, reading becomes a habit we do not do, then we are in danger. Reading His Word should be natural and constant for Christians.

We are to keep God’s laws to be “in The light” Psalm 119:130 “The teaching of your word gives light, so even the simple can understand.”

Last week I preached of this “road map” called scripture.
It literally is always “Showing” us the way, the right choice, God’s will........—“The entrance of thy Words giveth light.” Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.” Ever heard that scripture before? Light reveals what is hidden in darkness. God’s Word reveals to man his sins and shortcomings.

God’s words through scripture teaches us with Simplicity!—“It giveth understanding unto the simple.” God’s Word has always been, and will always be, simple. Isaiah 35:8 tells us: “And a great road will go through that once deserted land. It will be named the Highway of Holiness. Evil-minded people will never travel on it. It will be only for those who walk in God’s ways; fools will never walk there.”

Being in God’s Word creates “The longing” to live as we are called. Psalm 119:131 “ I pant/long/desire/crave/expect... with expectation, longing for your commands.” ........“No wonder I wait expectantly for each of your commands”

Keeping God’s laws=Longing for His simple Word— Romans 10:13 “For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”..... What could be more simple than calling upon the name of the Lord? What keeps us from “calling” on the name of the Lord? EXPLAIN WITH EXAMPLES......Pride, arrogance, hard heart, “know it alls....... Men sometimes confuse His Word, adding their ideas and opinions.

Do we Long for His sound Word?—What a wonderful world we would have if everyone kept the Golden Rule! Matthew 7:12 “Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.” What a simple rule. “Do to others as you want them to do unto you.” In other words, treat others as you want to be treated.

Don’t gossip about others if you don’t want others to gossip about you. Don’t tell lies about others if you don’t want others to tell lies about you. Don’t cause drama with others if you don’t want drama in your lives.

We keep God’s Laws when we Long for His saving Word—Acts 16:31. Simple faith brings salvation. No other man can promise this. No other book can make such a promise.

As a Pastor, my heart breaks, sometimes I cannot understand where people go in this world. Psalm 119:136 “Rivers of tears gush from my eyes because people disobey your instructions.”..... “I weep because your laws are disobeyed”
