Absence
Absence
This psalm is considered a lament Psalm - the writer is concerned the perceived distance of Yahweh;
The psalmist asks God four time in the first two verse the question of “how long”;
The psalmist felt that God had forgotten him, that God was distant, that God was not concerned, that God was absent, and that God did not care if he was defeated;
Have you ever felt that God had forgotten you, that God was distant from you, that God was not concerned about you, that God was just absent, or that God did not want to protect you anymore;
Jesus tells us in John 16:33 that trouble will come but He as already defeated that trouble.
Petition
Petition
The psalmist then begins to petition - request - that God answer his questions;
The psalmist knows that because of God’s righteousness the He will respond to his cry - now that response might not fit his desires but it with fit God’s righteousness;
The psalmist is looking for strength or possibly health whichever it is he knows wow can supply;
The psalmist is feeling overrun or overtaken by his enemies which would also mean defeat, in his eyes, to Yahweh also;
The psalmist is not feeling secure in his situation - he may even feel totally isolated.
Trust
Trust
Even with all that the psalmist feels in his emotions - in his rock bottom - it never causes his faith to be shaken;
He never felt insecure in his trust of God even in view of all his trouble;
He remembered God’s unceasing and promised love for His children;
Are you at your rock bottom today - do you feel left alone and like you are being overrun by life - have you called out to God with trust;
I want you to remember this God will meet you at your rock bottom and He will walk you through - not around and not away from but through whatever it is.
