The Assignment

Jeremiah 1:5 The Message
5 “Before I shaped you in the womb, I knew all about you. Before you saw the light of day, I had holy plans for you: A prophet to the nations— that’s what I had in mind for you.”
Confession of Faith
I am not moved by what I see or by what I feel. I am moved by what I believe. I believe the WORD of God! The victory is mine! I have it now! I can see it through the eyes of my faith!
Last week we left Elijah in the cave, in the presence of God hearing a still small voice speaking to his heart!
Elijah was running for his life because Jezebel had threatened to kill him within 24 hours for killing the false prophets of Baal. Now it was God who anointed Elijah and it was God who worked through Elijah to complete his mission!
Fast Forward Elijah is now in the cave in the presence of God and he needs to get his new assignment!
New Assignment
1 Kings 19:15–18 GW
15 The Lord told him, “Go back to the wilderness near Damascus, the same way you came. When you get there, anoint Hazael as king of Aram. 16 Anoint Jehu, son of Nimshi, as king of Israel. And anoint Elisha, son of Shaphat, from Abel Meholah as prophet to take your place. 17 If anyone escapes from Hazael’s sword, Jehu will kill him. And if anyone escapes from Jehu’s sword, Elisha will kill him. 18 But I still have 7,000 people in Israel whose knees have not knelt to worship Baal and whose mouths have not kissed him.”
Jeremiah 1:5 The Living Bible
5 “I knew you before you were formed within your mother’s womb; before you were born I sanctified you and appointed you as my spokesman to the world.”
You and I were created for a specific and very special purpose
...to solve a specific problem on earth.
Mechanics solve car problems. Dentists solve tooth problems. Lawyers solve legal problems. Mothers solve emotional problems. Accountants solve tax problems.
God formed you in the belly
I knew you
He says: I approved you
I set you apart and sanctified you
I commissioned you before you were born.
I have an assignment
God knew what Jeremiah - just like he knew what your weaknesses and strengths would be like
He knew all my weaknesses and strengths, flaws and virtues, failures and successes.
God knew that Jeremiah would trust the Lord, that he would establish a close, personal relationship with the Lord.
For all these reasons, the Lord accepted Jeremiah The Lord accepted you and the Lord accepted me and chose us before we were born
Hear me
God chose Abraham, He Chose Moses, He Chose David, He Chose Ruth, He Chose Mathew, Mark Luke & John, He chose Paul & Peter, He Chose Harriet Tubman, He Chose Martin Luther King, He Chose Malcom X, He Chose Robert & John Kennedy, He Chose Jesus to die for each one of us They were all on assignment...
When God Calls You
When the Lord calls you to serve Him, you usually feel a senses a deep inadequacy.
More often than not, you can feel totally incapable and unqualified for the assignment
God will assist you with your assignment
Jeremiah 1:7–8 NLT
7 The Lord replied, “Don’t say, ‘I’m too young,’ for you must go wherever I send you and say whatever I tell you. 8 And don’t be afraid of the people, for I will be with you and will protect you. I, the Lord, have spoken!”
Somebody Needs You!
Proverbs 3:27 GW
27 Do not hold back anything good from those who are entitled to it when you have the power to do so.
Moses was needed as a leader to the children of Israel. He was their reward.
David was needed by the Israelites to defeat Goliath. He was a reward to King Saul as well, when he defeated Goliath and routed the Philistines.
Naomi needed a caretaker. Ruth was a reward for her, and so loyal that her devotion was recorded in the Scriptures for people to read of throughout generations.
Think about this. It is very important that you understand your significance and value.
For example :
Your patience is a reward for somebody that no one else would not tolerate.
Your words will motivate someone who cannot see what you see.
It may be the mental, emotional or spiritual qualities God has developed within you, but somebody desperately needs you today.
It’s your assignment
God planned you. Nobody else can be like you. Nobody else can do what you do. You are unlike anyone else on earth. You gotta get this - Embrace it.
Your Assignment is not your decision - it’s your discovery
1 Corinthians 2:10 GW
10 God has revealed those things to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches everything, especially the deep things of God.
His plan for your life will require a personal decision on your part to cooperate.
Deuteronomy 28:1 The Living Bible
1 “If you fully obey all of these commandments of the Lord your God, the laws I am declaring to you today, God will transform you into the greatest nation in the world.
Deuteronomy 28:2–3 NKJV
2 And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God: 3 “Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the country.
His plan gives life to you, while other plans will bring death.
Deuteronomy 30:19 GW
19 I call on heaven and earth as witnesses today that I have offered you life or death, blessings or curses. Choose life so that you and your descendants will live.
Your assignment has been predestined in the mind of God.
Jeremiah 1:10 The Message
10 See what I’ve done? I’ve given you a job to do among nations and governments—a red-letter day! Your job is to pull up and tear down, take apart and demolish, And then start over, building and planting.”
God decides what He desires for you to do. You decide your obedience.
Predestination is the intention of God, not the decision of God.
2 Peter 3:9 GW
9 The Lord isn’t slow to do what he promised, as some people think. Rather, he is patient for your sake. He doesn’t want to destroy anyone but wants all people to have an opportunity to turn to him and change the way they think and act.
Hear me on this:
So we know that God does not want anyone to perish. Yet, they do. Daily.
Millions have perished without Christ. So, even though you were intended by God to be saved, it remains your decision to cooperate with Him and accept Him.
Matthew 23:37–38 NLT
37 “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones God’s messengers! How often I have wanted to gather your children together as a hen protects her chicks beneath her wings, but you wouldn’t let me. 38 And now, look, your house is abandoned and desolate.
The same with your assignment
God decides.
You must discover.
God decides what He has intended for you to become.
You and I must decide the degree of obedience and cooperation to make it happen.
Products do not decide. Manufacturers decide. You are the product of God. He is the only One who can reveal the Assignment He decided for you at your birth.
Remember: Your Assignment Is Not Your Decision, But Your Discovery.
