Jesus’ second “I am” statement in John is his claim to be the light of the world. And no matter which way you look at it, this is a massive claim. Whether it captures rich theme of light that weaves through the Bible, or the epic nature of light in creation and science, or the representation of light as truth and enlightenment, or the picture of light as purity and goodness, or the theology of light as God himself... However you consider it, it’s an incredible statement.
