1              If therefore there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion.

2              make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose.

3              Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind let each of you regard one another as more important than himself;

4              do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.

I.             If any of these obvious things are true.

                A.            Christ gives encouragement.

                B.            Love consoles.

                C.            The Spirit provides fellowship.

                D.            There is affection and compassion among you.

II.            Then make my joy complete by applying those things to body life.

                A.            Work to all have the same mind of Christ.  (Encouragement in Christ)

                B.            Work to all have the same consoling love.  (Consolation of love)

                C.            Work towards unity in attitudes.  (followship of the Spirit)

                D.            Work towards the same goal. (affection and compassion toward each other).

III.          The way to apply these things is through humility.

                A.            Our priority should not be on ourselves.

                                1.             Do not act out of selfishness.

                                2.             Do not act out of empty conceit.

                                3.             Do not only look out for yourself.

                B.            Our priority should be to help others.

                                1.             Consider others to be more important than yourself.

                                2.             Look out for the interests of others.
