Descriptive vs. Prescriptive

Descriptive - means the bible just described the event in the bible or what they have done.

Prescriptive - means its a mandate, instruction, or a command of God

God’s normative instruction of marriage

Mark 10:3–5 ESV

He answered them, “What did Moses command you?” They said, “Moses allowed a man to write a certificate of divorce and to send her away.” And Jesus said to them, “Because of your hardness of heart he wrote you this commandment.

God’s normative instruction for marriage does not change.

Allowing vs. Commanding

Mark 10:5 ESV

And Jesus said to them, “Because of your hardness of heart he wrote you this commandment.

God never approved nor condoned a marriage away from God’s design.
