Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds:

How to Talk to People

Colossians 4:3-6

I. Pray for the man of God 4:3-4

That God would open him a door of utterance II Corinthians 2:12

An opportunity to speak the Word Revelation 3:7-8

Receptive hearts

That he might make the message clear

God’s Word works but the preacher needs to get out of the way

The Words spoken straight but without things from the preacher that would hinder the Word

That he might speak like he ought to speak

We want to lift high the name of Jesus and His Word

We want His Word to be freed to do its job-we want to get out of the way II Thessalonians 3:1-2

He should speak it boldly Acts 4:29

You should pray for yourself asking God to open doors for you to be able to present the gospel to others

Vision Baptist Church should pray for preachers more than most churches

God has given us a great number of them out preaching right now

We are here and they are there

They need clear thoughts, help with the language and culture

Pray for our missionaries on deputation

We are walking in wisdom so that we will be able to share the gospel message with them

Be careful not to give the lost world a reason to not take the Word of God seriously II Samuel 12:14, I Timothy 5:14

If we do not walk right we will not be able to talk right I Thessalonians 4:12

We don't treat people like they treat us I Thessalonians 5:15

We can commend ourselves with truth II Corinthians 4:2

Right living will put to silence ignorant people I Peter 2:12, 15

Redeem the time 4:5

Refers to seizing every opportunity

Taking advantage of the opportunity

We live in evil days, dangerous days

People may not be ready to listen so we have to look for every opportunity to talk to them

Learn how to talk to people 4:6

If our hearts aren't grace filled then we will not be able to talk to people correctly 3:16

Grace in our hearts helps us witness to people and not judge or act like a prosecuting attorney

Jesus talked with gracious, sweet, wise words Luke 4:22, Psalm 45:2

Our speech should minister grace to the hearers Ephesians 4:29, 31, 15

Seasoned with salt 4:6

Salt preserves so no corrupt communication should come from our mouth Ephesians 4:29

Salt was used on sacrifices to God Leviticus 2:13, Hebrews 13:15

Some are so concerned about having convictions and not compromising that they lose all grace, salt, and are rough with people

We are to be ready to give an answer I Peter 3:15

We must not be know it alls Ecclesiastes 10:12

We must sound or good speech that they can’t argue with Titus 2:8

Some ideas on how to talk and witness

Do not try to prove the existence of God

They already know He exists

Take that as a given

Instead of trying to prove there is a God use truth that will convict them

Don't try to defend the Bible

It doesn’t need your defense

Simply speak the truths that it contains and allow the Holy Spirit to use His sword

Don't try to get people to change their lifestyle

Pigs are pigs and sheep are sheep

Getting a pig to act like a sheep may make you more comfortable but it did nothing for them

They sin because they are sinners

Don't deal with the obvious deal with the root, which is their heart

God is the life changer not us

Don't be judgmental or condemning accept them as people just take a stand for truth

Don't argue

It is only a waste of time

It proves that you have already lost

Let your life, your love, and your words work on their hearts

Just live out your faith and speak when the door is open
