English Standard Version Chapter 1
Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger;
The Christian life is an active life that produces and necessitates right actions . Once you are a believer, you should want to do right . Once you are a believer, you should keep wanting to do right.

The text reveals for us several of these actions that lead to biblical hearing; this biblical hearing is consistent with genuine religion:
Put away filthiness and wickedness (vv. 20-21)
Word picture of overflowing - the dirtiness that was profuse needs to be replaced by the word which grows to fruition.
This passage shows us how the change on the inside results in a change in our actions
Be the kind of “hearer” who “does.” (vv. 23-25)
Look into the Law
Stay faithful
Take action instead of forgetting.
We must be careful not to get into a habit of ignoring the Spirit of God or talking ourselves out of right responses to the Word. Sometimes we make excuses or allow ourselves to form habits that produce wrong actions or no actions at all.
Be truthful in your religion. (vv.26-27, 21)
There is a kind of religion that is deceptive
There is a kind of religion that is worthless
There is a kind of religion that is genuine
