Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour. And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple; Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms. And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us. And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them. Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ancle bones received strength. And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God. And all the people saw him walking and praising God: And they knew that it was he which sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple: and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him.
And as the lame man which was healed held Peter and John, all the people ran together unto them in the porch that is called Solomon’s, greatly wondering.
THE THINGS MONEY CAN’T BUY
THE THINGS MONEY CAN’T BUY
INTRODUCTION:
Money will buy a lot of things:
Pleasure, earthly fame, comfort of life.
Jesus shows us just what money will buy. Luke 16: (A certain rich man)
He is a man who made money; gold and silver his god.
But it wouldn't buy a drop of water in Hell.
Notice Peter and John going to God's house?
They were going to pray.
Why do you go to church? Pray or judge.
They had an opportunity to do good.
The poor man expected alms but Peter said, "Look on us." They gave him something better than money, "Silver and gold have I none."
There are a lot of things that money won't buy.
MONEY WILL NOT BUY TIME
When you come to the end of life's journey. Job: "... the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh."
And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer:
Revelation 10:6—"Time is no longer."
MONEY WILL NOT BUY REAL JOY
Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity. What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun?
Solomon cried: "All is vanity under the sun." I'm glad that at the right hand of the Christian there are pleasures evermore.
MONEY WILL NOT BUY SALVATION
And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
It is not purchased with silver and gold. The rich young ruler wanted to buy it.
MONEY WILL NOT BUY THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
"Tarry and ye shall receive power that the Holy Spirit giveth."
MONEY WILL NOT BUY REAL FRIENDS—Luke 15
The Prodigal's money gave out and they left him. "Friendship ends where prosperity ends."
MONEY WILL NOT BUY TREASURES IN HEAVEN—John 14:5-6
Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
"Seek ye first the Kingdom of Heaven."
MONEY WILL NOT BUY A MANSION IN HEAVEN
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
"Let not your hearts be troubled." Certainly money is not everything.
