Sent… Then What? Sent… Then What? It won’t be easy… Luke 10:3–4 NIV ³ Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves. ⁴ Do not take a purse or bag or sandals; and do not greet anyone on the road. Do you have any situations in your life where it feels a bit like this? __________________________________________________________ We don’t know how it will be received... Luke 10:5–6 NIV ⁵ “When you enter a house, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’ ⁶ If someone who promotes peace is there, your peace will rest on them; if not, it will return to you. Watch: What I learned from 100 days of rejection | Jia Jiang (Before or after the service) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vZXgApsPCQ Remember: Most of those who saw Jesus life and ministry still rejected him too... Can you remember a time when you were surprised that someone said yes to something? __________________________________________________________ What are some of the things that prevent you from sharing your faith? __________________________________________________________ Did you know: Our church has a subscription to “Right Now Media”, basically a Netflix for faith material, training, Bible studies, kid’s shows, for free, for anyone associated with the congregation. If feeling like you don’t know enough to participate in Bible studies or talk to others about faith, you can check out: The Bible Project Videos: https://www.rightnowmedia.org/Content/Publisher/14395/1 Contact the church office if you don’t have an account and would like to be sent an invite... Luke 10:16 NIV ¹⁶ “Whoever listens to you listens to me; whoever rejects you rejects me; but whoever rejects me rejects him who sent me.” Exported from Logos Bible Software, 5:27 PM July 1, 2020. 1 This isn’t a way that we earn our place... Luke 10:17–18 NIV ¹⁷ The seventy-two returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.” ¹⁸ He replied, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. The church isn’t just a community service organisation, sporting club or political party. We might do things that connect with all of these, but our service in the community, our worship together, is a spiritual act. Luke 10:19–20 NIV ¹⁹ I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. ²⁰ However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.” The 70 were to celebrate their identity in Jesus, their place in God’s family… This isn’t just the participation award… We don’t earn God’s love by keeping busy… We love, we show forgiveness, generosity and grace because of what has already been giving to us... If you are here today and are unsure of your place here, unsure how God sees you, feel the need to earn your place, know the love and grace of God is for you too… You don’t have anything to prove, there is nothing to earn, it is already done in Jesus, the only question is how you respond. We can celebrate the successes, but that doesn’t define us. We can be honest with the shortcomings, they don’t define us. Our hope, our joy, is grounded in our identity in Jesus as forgiven people. The missionary impulse, to be sent, isn’t about earning our place, but comes as a gracious response to what God has given us. How might you remind yourself of God’s love for you, each day… Even when things aren’t going well? __________________________________________________________ How might you show this to someone else if it’s hard for them to see? __________________________________________________________ Exported from Logos Bible Software, 5:27 PM July 1, 2020. 2
