The Point Of No Return

I have decided to follow Jesus – no turning back – no turning back

Choose ye this day who you will serve.

To whom else shall we go

Though he slay me yet will I hope in Him

How do people get to that point?

They personally experience God.  They try and test His Word and discover that it is good.

They become spoiled.

When a person discovers truth it is impossible to turn away from it happily.  The rich young ruler went away sad.  There are people who come to church every week and you leave sadly because you are not responding to God’s prompting in your life.  After a while we turn sour.

Nothing to return to.

Too much invested – alternatives are eliminated.

They become convinced.

Inescapable reality

There are some people who hang on until they get a better offer.

Why do people turn back?

Ø      They don’t get what they expect.  It is crucial that people should know what to expect when they come to Christ.

Ø      They reach an impasse – a point at which they are no longer willing to trust God.  Many people spend a lifetime stalled at the chasm.

Ø      Failing to renew resources that become depleted over time.  There are little things that are crucial to our spiritual well being that are easy to ignore in the short distance.

Ø      Issues of the will.  God must have your will.  It must become your absolute resolve and determination to become a servant in every way possible.

Ø      Sentimentality is poor glue.  There are those who love and respect everything associated with the church but are not willing to identify themselves strongly with it.  The attachment is weak
