The degradation of our culture is the constant enemy of every Christian family

Philosophy - Postmodernism, live-and-let-live philosophy (60’s)

This morning I want to speak to you today about a young man that was born into a wicked Culture

You can study the Roman Culture of the first century

Timothy was not raised in a traditional “Christian” family

No indication that Timothy’s father was saved

There are many single moms that are doing there best to raise their children

Timothy had a Godly mom and grandmother

We can have a Godly family, even when we live in an ungodly culture

Transition: I want to share with you a prescription from the Scriptures of how we can victory over the culture

I. There is Victory in a Real Faith

2 Timothy 1:5 When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.

Unfeigned - without disguise

Lois (Grandmother)

Lois means Agreeable

Tried to find common ground

Sweet Spirit

Full of the Spirit

Eunice (Mother)

2 Timothy 1:5 When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.

Eunice means Good Victory

Note: We can’t raise up children to have victory, if we do not have the victory!

II. There is Victory in Loving Family

There was not merely, a faith filled family, this was a loving family!

Some secrets to having a loving family:

Wives Love Your Husbands

1 Peter 3:5-6 For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands: 6 Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.

Respect, Honor, and Encourage your Husband

Children need to see the model of the wife respecting the Husband

Husbands Honor Your Wives

Proverbs 31:28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.

Objection: well, if my wife was the “Proverbs 31” woman I would praise her....

No, find what she is doing right, and praise her for that!

Ephesians 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

Fathers

Give Direction

Set Down Some Guide Lines

Ephesians 6:4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

Mothers

Give Guidance

1 Timothy 5:14 I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.

Guidance is not letting your children choose what THEY want. You direct them to do what is right.

III. There is Victory in a Purposeful Future

God has a distinct plan for each of our lives

2 Timothy 1:9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

Romans 8:28-29 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. 29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

Jeremiah 1:5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

2 Timothy 1:8 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;

We have the Power and Liberty to Serve the Lord!

Galatians 5:13 For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.

Conclusion

There is Victory in Christ Jesus
