Have you made anything in your life?
Cooked a meal
Made some slime
Built something with carpentry skills
Ever work with glitter? - Ever been around someone who had worked with glitter??? LOL.
The one thing that all of these things have in common is that:
In order to make something, it get messy.
Matthew 4:19 NKJV
19 Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
Matthew 4:19 AMP
19 And He said to them, Come after Me [as disciples—letting Me be your Guide], follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men!

Making is messy:

We want the product without the process
We want the yield without the discipline
We want the benefits without the commitment
We want refining without loss
Isaiah 48:10 NKJV
10 Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver; I have tested you in the furnace of affliction.
1 Peter 1:6–7 NKJV
6 In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ,
Are you in a fire?
Don’t jump out of God’s fire - It’s causing you to become more precious than pure gold.
We pay SOOOOOO much more for the purer gold - there is value in refinement.
24k gold is pure
14k gold is 14 parts pure gold & 10 parts other stuff (nearly half)…but it looks just as gold as pure gold depending on the “Other Stuff” in it.
2 Timothy 2:21 AMP
21 So whoever cleanses himself [from what is ignoble and unclean, who separates himself from contact with contaminating and corrupting influences] will [then himself] be a vessel set apart and useful for honorable and noble purposes, consecrated and profitable to the Master, fit and ready for any good work.
Refinement = Loss
The process of purification & refining is the process of removing what is not essentially who you are made to be.
Dross is removed from gold, but that doesn’t mean that the things that the dross is made of had no value, it just isn’t Gold.
-so sometimes when God removes things from our life, we feel a great sense of loss - even if it wasn’t a benefit to us - because those things may have had some value.
When we experience loss, we often go through a grief process:
Grief Cycle

Some Things God Wants to Make You Into:

A exact replica of His likeness (Genesis 1:26)
A great nation with a great name (Genesis 12:2)
Exceedingly Fruitful & the Parents of kings (Genesis 17:6)
Friends of God (John 15:5)
The Temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19)
A child of God & a full-brother to Jesus Himself (Hebrews 2:11)
The Light of the World (Matthew 5:14)
A city built on a hill that cannot be hidden (Matthew 5:14)
The seasoning (salt) of the earth (Matthew 5:13)
An Overcomer & a Conqueror in EVERY situation (Romans 8:37)
There is no doubt that Jesus WANTS to make you into ALL of these.
But...
The making process is messy
Some of us have undergone the process to allow ourself to be made into some of these things, but some of the others remain elusive.
I want to submit to us today that perhaps we have become tired of the mess and just want to “be satisfied with what we have”
Some of you may know that we finally purchased a home after 18 years of marriage.
-Don’t get too excited, because we purchased a 60 year old home with A LOT of issues. - within 10 minutes of owning the home, we had already torn down 3 interior walls & this started the “making it into what we want it to be process!”
Interior Home Image
Story of our home renovation experiences:
-After tearing out every pipe and every wire, removing almost every wall, replacing the support beams in the home, cutting open the foundation, etc. etc. etc......
You’re expecting to hear that we were finally done.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA....
Nope…I was burned out and tired of making this home & I literally could NOT bring myself to work on it any further for a few months.
Guess What....We are back working on our home again, and it’s still not finished - I’m not sure we will EVER be FINISHED.
I wanted to share this story with you because I am just like this house & so are you.
Maybe you are a 60 year old house, maybe you are a 103 year old house like my Grandma. Maybe you are are a tear-down and brand new construction from the bottom up.
It’s gonna be a mess and a process
Galatians 6:9 NKJV
9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.
Don’t STOP the process and Jesus will MAKE you
into something so amazing that you cannot even imagine.

Just One Thing:

Even though the making process is messy, yield to Jesus and let Him Make You into something wonderful!
1 Corinthians 2:9 NKJV
9 But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”

Discussion Questions:

What smartphone feature would you actually be excited for a company to implement?
When you think of the refining process, what is the most dominant image you have about it? Please share and explain a little.
Please Read 2 Timothy 2:21 (especially in the Amplified translation) and share what this scripture tells you about the need for personal purification & how much you have desire for that.
Which area(s) of your life are you currently experiencing the most refining right now?
