God at Work!
Notes
Transcript
The setting is that the Jewish leaders were upset because a man was healed on the Sabbath day. Jesus replied that His Father is constantly working, and he is at work.
God is at work:
Establishing Christ’s Reign (17-23)
Establishing Christ’s Reign (17-23)
Because Jesus equated Himself with the Father the Jews moved from persecution to preparing to kill Him. They considered it blasphemy.
Jesus only did the will of the Father.
The will of the Father is to bring all things under subjection to Christ, so that He may receive the glory.
The Lord says to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool.” The Lord sends forth from Zion your mighty scepter. Rule in the midst of your enemies! Your people will offer themselves freely on the day of your power, in holy garments; from the womb of the morning, the dew of your youth will be yours.
Greater works - Christ’s reign, redemption, and the resurrection!
All judgement has been committed to the Son. Everyone will be judged based on their relationship to Christ.
Providing for Our Redemption (24)
Providing for Our Redemption (24)
Our redemption is through faith!
It is belief in Christ that brings life!
It has been completed in Christ! - It is finished!
It is being applied by the work of the Holy Spirit.
Preparing for the Last Resurrection (25-29)
Preparing for the Last Resurrection (25-29)
Two resurrections:
But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ. Then comes the end, when he delivers the kingdom to God the Father after destroying every rule and every authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death. For “God has put all things in subjection under his feet.” But when it says, “all things are put in subjection,” it is plain that he is excepted who put all things in subjection under him.
Then I saw thrones, and seated on them were those to whom the authority to judge was committed. Also I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for the testimony of Jesus and for the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is the one who shares in the first resurrection! Over such the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and they will reign with him for a thousand years.
Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
The question is which resurrection will you be a part of?
