I want to make a point here this morning that the kingdom of God is about justice.
Matthew 12:9–21 NASB95
9 Departing from there, He went into their synagogue. 10 And a man was there whose hand was withered. And they questioned Jesus, asking, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”—so that they might accuse Him. 11 And He said to them, “What man is there among you who has a sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will he not take hold of it and lift it out? 12 “How much more valuable then is a man than a sheep! So then, it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.” 13 Then He said to the man, “Stretch out your hand!” He stretched it out, and it was restored to normal, like the other. 14 But the Pharisees went out and conspired against Him, as to how they might destroy Him. 15 But Jesus, aware of this, withdrew from there. Many followed Him, and He healed them all, 16 and warned them not to tell who He was. 17 This was to fulfill what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet: 18 Behold, My Servant whom I have chosen; My Beloved in whom My soul is well-pleased; I will put My Spirit upon Him, And He shall proclaim justice to the Gentiles. 19 He will not quarrel, nor cry out; Nor will anyone hear His voice in the streets. 20 “A battered reed He will not break off, And a smoldering wick He will not put out, Until He leads justice to victory. 21 And in His name the Gentiles will hope.”
Look again at verse 20 He will lead the Justice to victor. So then what is the victor?
Total global domination… This is referring to the Kingdom of God.
So then what is the Kingdom of God?
Romans 14:17 NASB95
17 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
Jesus says this about the Kingdom of God in
Luke 17:20–21 NASB95
20 Now having been questioned by the Pharisees as to when the kingdom of God was coming, He answered them and said, “The kingdom of God is not coming with signs to be observed; 21 nor will they say, ‘Look, here it is!’ or, ‘There it is!’ For behold, the kingdom of God is in your midst.”
And jesus did this he sent out his disciple and told them in
Matthew 10:7–8 NASB95
7 “And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ 8 “Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give.
If you ever been sick and God healed you.
If you ever been dead and God raise you up.
If you ever been a leper and you been cleansed
If you ever had a devil and its been cast out by the power of the holy spirit.
Luke 11:20 NASB95
20 “But if I cast out demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.
It would bring you much peace and Joy. And it would express God’s righteousness.
Now we can conclude from all of this that the kingdom of God is victory of the evil one.
This is the very purpose of the life of Jesus to bring victory to all that are in His kingdom
Isaiah 10:17 NASB95
17 And the light of Israel will become a fire and his Holy One a flame, And it will burn and devour his thorns and his briars in a single day.
So the Light of Israel will be for a fire,
And his Holy One for a flame;
It will burn and devour
His thorns and his briers in one day.
Now in this text we see it is prophetically speaking of the holy spirit as he come as a flame.
Bringing light, burning and devouring.
When the judge judges us he give is a helper to help us walk in his judgment
He give us a light because he becomes our light.
1 Thessalonians 5:5–6 NASB95
5 for you are all sons of light and sons of day. We are not of night nor of darkness; 6 so then let us not sleep as others do, but let us be alert and sober.
You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. Thank you holy spirit for the light in my
Notice
1 John 3:7–9 NASB95
7 Little children, make sure no one deceives you; the one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous; 8 the one who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil. 9 No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
So notice the life and the purpose of Jesus. To come us a new kingdom to live under.
He come to put the other owner out of Business and under new management.
He comes to destroy the other kingdom and bring forth a new one. One of justice and peace.
So the question then becomes what is justice.
I looked it up in the dictionary and found
That it is the quality of being just; righteousness; moral rightness; to uphold the justice of a cause.
This was the ministry of Jesus. This is the kingdom of God.
Justice says God is righteous and will do right.
And because of this we can trust him
Jesus came to a people that were needy and broken.
He came to the sick and the poor.
He came for those who were in darkness and lost.
He came to bring Isaiah chapter 61:1-3
Isaiah 61:1–3 NASB95
1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, Because the Lord has anointed me To bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to captives And freedom to prisoners; 2 To proclaim the favorable year of the Lord And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn, 3 To grant those who mourn in Zion, Giving them a garland instead of ashes, The oil of gladness instead of mourning, The mantle of praise instead of a spirit of fainting. So they will be called oaks of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.
Why?
Because this is justice for him people.
He came to fight for his own. To bring them back to him.
To take them from the hands of the evil one.
Why because
Psalm 33:5 NASB95
5 He loves righteousness and justice; The earth is full of the lovingkindness of the Lord.
Justice is His name.
Notice the Day of vengeance. Justice is God vengeance again the enemy.
He came to a people with a past fill with hated, idolatry, slavery, disobedience, faithlessness, hardness, sickness, lossness, oppression, and poverty.
And came to proclaim freedom.
And the year of the lord. Meaning they where free from debt.
And that vengeance is him
And that I will comfort you and you don’t have to be lonely or hurt.
And the power to be happy and enjoy your life.
Why? Because this is Jesus bringing forth his Justice to the world.
We should echo the cry of Amos when he says
Amos 5:24 NASB95
24 “But let justice roll down like waters And righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.
God Is good and he will do right.
And because of this face we can walk around without fear. Even in tribulation because he will give us.
Luke 1:71–75 NASB95
71 Salvation from our enemies, And from the hand of all who hate us; 72 To show mercy toward our fathers, And to remember His holy covenant, 73 The oath which He swore to Abraham our father, 74 To grant us that we, being rescued from the hand of our enemies, Might serve Him without fear, 75 In holiness and righteousness before Him all our days.
Ill close with these prophetic words concerning the kingdom of God and all that are in it.
Isaiah 51:4–5 NASB95
4 “Pay attention to Me, O My people, And give ear to Me, O My nation; For a law will go forth from Me, And I will set My justice for a light of the peoples. 5 “My righteousness is near, My salvation has gone forth, And My arms will judge the peoples; The coastlands will wait for Me, And for My arm they will wait expectantly.
