The WC

An English lady while visiting Switzerland was looking for a room to rent.  She asked the local schoolmaster and he showed her to several rooms.   When she finally found one she liked, she returned home to England to make final preparation to move.  When she was packing she remembered she hadn't seen a WC around the house, which to her meant Water Closet or toilet, so she wrote the schoolmaster asking him if there was a WC.  But he was a poor student in English and didn't understand the meaning of WC, so he took the note to the the local preacher and asked him if he knew the meaning of WC.  The only thing that he could offer was "The Wesleyan Church".  So the schoolmaster then wrote the following note back to the English lady.

Dear Madam,

I take great pleasure in informing you that the WC is situated nine miles from the house in the corner of a beautiful grove of pine trees surrounded by lovely grounds.  It is capable of holding 229 people and is open on Sundays and Thursdays only.  I would suggest your ladyship attend on Thursdays when there is organ accompaniment.  The acoustics are excellent and even the most delicate noises can be heard everywhere.

As there are a great number of people expected during the summer months I would suggest your ladyship bring a lunch and make a day of it, while others who are able to afford it go by car and arrive just in time, although there is usually plenty of standing room.

It may interest your ladyship to know that my daughter was married in a WC and she also met her husband there.  You should have seen the rush for seats that day.  There were ten to a seat usually occupied by one and it was wonderful to see the expressions on their faces.

The newest addition is a bell donated by a worthy resident of the District.  It rings everytime a person enters.  At a recent board meeting we decided to add plush coverings to all the seats since the people feel it is a long felt need.

My wifeis rather delicate so she can't attend as often as she'd like.  It's been almost a year since she went last time and naturally it pains her much not to be able to go more often.

If you wish, I shall reserve for your ladyship the best seat in the house where you will be seen by all.  For the children there is a special time and place so they will not disturb the others.
