HOOK

Last Thursday right here at “The Message” we discussed the first part of the narrative when Jesus promised the Holy Spirit to His disciples— from it we learned these two things:
MY OBEDIENCE IS THE PROOF OF MY LOVE FOR GOD
THE HOLY SPIRIT WILL ENABLE ME TO DO THE WORKS OF JESUS
Today we will glean into the last half of that story, and it will bring us to the completion of Chapter 14! Yehey!
Open your Bible to JOHN 14:21-31, you know what to do once you find the right page in your Bible
CHARACTER, COMMAND, PROMISES, CONVICTIONS, EXAMPLES, CHALLENGES AND ENCOURAGEMENT
Read JOHN 14:22-31

BOOK

John 14:22–31 NIV
22 Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, “But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?” 23 Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. 24 Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me. 25 “All this I have spoken while still with you. 26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. 28 “You heard me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. 29 I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe. 30 I will not say much more to you, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold over me, 31 but he comes so that the world may learn that I love the Father and do exactly what my Father has commanded me. “Come now; let us leave.

LOOK

LORD WHY DO YOU INTEND TO SHOW YOURSELF TO US AND NOT TO THE WORLD?
Prior to this Jesus said that he will love them, and that he will show himself to them [Glorified Jesus]
Let’s see how the Lord responded to this question
ANYONE WHO LOVES ME WILL OBEY MY TEACHING
ANYONE WHO DOES NOT LOVE ME WILL NOT OBEY MY TEACHING
He already said these early on in this conversation— Jesus strongly put a great emphasis to his equation of LOVE & OBEDIENCE
Our obedience is anchored in love
THE HOLY SPIRIT WILL TEACH YOU ALL THINGS AND REMIND YOU OF EVERYTHING
The Holy Spirit [parakletos in Greek], meaning advocate, counsel, legal assistant, comforter will teach and remind us of everything the Jesus said
While Jesus was here on earth, he was their means to interact with God the Father since their sin prevented them from doing so directly
The Holy Spirit is sent to the same thing— The Holy Spirit is everywhere
He is God’s means of communication to INSTRUCT believers, LEADS them to follow God’s will.
The Holy Spirit givest us ACCESS to God, His plans and His Wisdom
PEACE I LEAVE YOU, MY PEACE I GIVE YOU
Refers the wholeness of their relationship with God— now, through the Holy Spirit, they have a way to reach God— unhindered by rituals, sacrifices, or laws and atonement for their sins— because already became our ultimate sacrifice
So they are free to communicate with God and be in His presence
DO NOT LET YOUR HEARTS BE TROUBLED AND DO NOT BE AFRAID
The peace he gave them shall mend their troubled hearts and overcome their fear
HE HAS NOT HOLD OVER ME
The he there is the prince of this world [Satan]— ACTS 2:34-35

TOOK
