The Lexham Bible Dictionary Repentance
REPENTANCE A change of attitude and action from sin toward obedience to God. The concept of repentance differs slightly in the Hebrew and Greek minds, but an emphasis upon right behavior is consistent throughout.
We repent because we have sinned against a perfect and holy God.
We repent because we have sinned against a perfect and holy God.
Psalm 51
Unless we realize the severity of our sin before a just and holy God we will never be willing to repent.
Repentance is a gift from God that we do not deserve.
Repentance is a gift from God that we do not deserve.
God is not obligated to grant us repentance, it is a gift out of His abundant grace and compassion. We are not entitled to an opportunity to repent.
2 Timothy 2:24 -3:7
Repentance is not optional, it is essential to faith in Christ.

2 Corinthians 7:9-10
The message of repentance is the message that has consistently been preached throughout the New Testament. We see this beginning with John the Baptist and Jesus Christ all the way through to the book of Revelation.
1 In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, 2 “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
14 Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, 15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”
32 I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.”
5 No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.”
12 So they went out and proclaimed that people should repent.
37 Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” 38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
30 The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent,
You can not separate repentance from the gospel and still have the gospel.
You can not separate repentance from the gospel and still have the gospel.
1 Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, 2 and of instruction about washings, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. 3 And this we will do if God permits.
Repentance is the foundation that our faith in Christ is built on. It must be a constant and continuous part of our lives!
Repentance is the wedge that God uses to drive deeper and deeper into the heart of man, to separate him from himself.
Repentance is the wedge that God uses to drive deeper and deeper into the heart of man, to separate him from himself.
As long as sin persists in our lives we still desperately need to repent.
