Intro: Paul had little time left. He gave Timothy one final charge to preach God’s Word, and to do so with integrity and purity. Not everyone will listen. In fact, many will not. But the pastor must remain faithful to his calling to honor God’s Word. We will look at 3 Key things that Paul told Timothy.

I. We need to Preach vs 1-2

A. Be Instant in season and out of season- Opportunity good or bad
when we don't want to
when it feel like no ones listening
when we feel like it seem to be against the law
B. Reprove, Rebuke, Exhort
Reprove- convict of their errors
Rebuke-to charge- charge on pain of penalty for disobedience
Exhort- Urge, implore
C. Long Suffering and Doctrine
Longsuffering is to be maintained against the temptations to anger presented by the obstinacy and perverseness of certain hearers; and such are to be met, not merely with rebuke, but also with sound and reasonable instruction in the truth

II. We need to Teach vs 3-4

A. Sound Doctrine
Healthy Teaching
False teaching
Lustful learning to their own desires
B. Turn from the truth
Illustration:There is a tale told of that great English actor Macready. An eminent preacher once said to him: "I wish you would explain to me something." "Well, what is it? I don't know that I can explain anything to a preacher." "What is the reason for the difference between you and me? You are appearing before crowds night after night with fiction, and the crowds come wherever you go. I am preaching the essential and unchangeable truth, and I am not getting any crowd at all." Macready's answer was this: "This is quite simple. I can tell you the difference between us. I present my fiction as though it were truth; you present your truth as though it were fiction." By Campbell Morgan

III. Be Faithful

A. Be sober in all things
B. Do the work of an evangelist.
