WHAT CAN WE LEARN FROM THE GREATEST SPIRITUAL LEADERS IN SCRIPTURES
Joshua was one of the greatest leaders in Israel’s history.
Israel served the Lord all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua and had known all the work that the Lord did for Israel.
He challenged others to serve God. His challenge was not something He was not willing to do Himself.
“Now therefore fear the Lord and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness. Put away the gods that your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
One vital lessons to be gained from this is that if we are going to follow Christ we have to make a firm decision to go all in and serve Him with your whole being.
There is a leadership lesson in this as well in that we have to be willing to make a firm decision to lead and be open about doing it.
There is also a lot to be gained from looking at one of Joshua’s instances of great leadership; His farewell address in chapter 23 and in his address to the eastern tribes in chapter 22.
Only be very careful to observe the commandment and the law that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, to love the Lord your God, and to walk in all his ways and to keep his commandments and to cling to him and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.”
This sounds very familiar because this is what God told Joshua at the beginning of the book. Joshua did this and God gave Him success as promised. Joshua is giving them the truth God gave Him.
JOSHUA WAS A GREAT LEADER BECAUSE HE HAD A GREAT RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD. THAT WAS THE CASE BECAUSE HE SERVED GOD WITH ALL HIS HEART.
SO THE CORE TRUTH THAT MUST BE UNDERSTOOD FIRST OR NO OTHER LEADERSHIP POINTS WILL HELP IS THAT TO LEAD PEOPLE SPIRITUALLY WE MUST BE CONNECTED TO AND CLINGING TO CHRIST.
If we hold fast to God, abide in Christ, stay connected to the vine we can help lead others closer to Christ.
Be we must have a close relationship to Him if we are going to help others have a close relationship to Him.
