Rest: Freedom from work or activity

God Rested after creating earth

Gn.2.2
And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done.
The Holy Bible: English Standard Version (Wheaton, IL: Crossway Bibles, 2016), Ge 2:2.
God sets that example that we too should cease from labor of every kind
This includes mental rest...

How do we rest?

Matt.11.28-30
28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
The Holy Bible: English Standard Version (Wheaton, IL: Crossway Bibles, 2016), Mt 11:28–30.
Come to me is an invitation to personally trust Jesus
The wider application of this ( outside of those being oppressed by the burden of religious legalism at the hands of the scribes and Pharisees) is rest for your souls; eternal rest for those seeking forgiveness for sins
Taking His yoke symbolizes the subjection to Jesus and only Jesus
There’s a guarantee and promise that safety will be found as your yokes are mad easy by falling and depending on Christ
